I watched "Borat" yesterday, and was not much impressed. There were a few laughs in it, but mostly it was very predictable, and so not very funny. I was intrigued by the other actors in it, though, as they represented the Americans I know so well that I really thought that perhaps they were not actors, but regular folks reacting to "Borat" naturally. Obviously this could not be the case, but whoever those folks were, they sure looked like " regular americans". Which in a way made the film somewhat depressing. The absurdity it was depicting is sadly all too real.

I have not seen Borat yet, but from what I understand, those are not actors. They ARE real Americans. In fact, some are suing "Borat" now.

The fact that the "actors" are real may be depressing, but that's why Borat is such a success. Not only is it funny, it's an effective social commentary (as comedy should be).

Now that you know many of those people weren't actors, what do you think?

Well, they had to have seen all the cameras and lights and movie hardware, so they knew they we being filmed. And my guess is that they were all paid for their participation. But now that the film is a success, they want more, I suppose. That too, is the American way.

But it still wasn't very funny.

VICE SQUAD
DVD/ Color/ 93 Mins./ R/ 1982
Director Gary Sherman helms this cult exploitation classic, following the undercover efforts of a Los Angeles businesswoman turned prostitute (Season Hubley) -- known only by her street name, Princess -- to bring down a violent pimp named Ramrod (Wings Hauser). Under the watchful eye of Detective Tom Walsh (Gary Swanson), who's tracking her every move, she works to solve the brutal murder of a streetwalker named Ginger (Nina Blackwood).

In the “You Can’t Go Home Again” department I thought it would be interesting to revisit this film 20 years later and I am sorry to say at the time I thought it was a quirky film but the only thing that holds up today is that Wings Hauser still turns in a very twisted performance as RamRod. The commentary should be interesting.

The butterfly effect 2 - For anyone thinking that this might be a good film, you're wrong. It was a total waste of time.

The birds - Again it was a total waste of 1+1/2 hours of my life, it was awfull, the acting was terrible as was the storyline, the effects were good for the time though!

Ghost rider - The comic was cool and the movie could have been so much better had it not been for Nicolas Cage, he just wasn't convincing as a superhero!
I think if the hero was like the one in Unbreakable then he could play a hero but not like this.

I just watched "Million Dollar Baby" again. It's a really great movie! The acting and directing and writing are all excellent.

Shark Tale, yesterday, with a friend. Afterwards, we were able to see the last half hour of the Passion of the Christ, which I'd seen already.

It was a sad sad film and a total waste of time in my life watching it, I should try and sue him to get that time back!

It was also confusing, I'm not sure who he intended to offend by doing what he did, if anything I think he made an embarasment of himself really!

Well, I just find mock racism &c quite funny. There are those who don't, or don't like Borat, or do like him but because of something else. Which is, of course, totally fine.

But there is indeed a difference between Borat the movie and Ali G the series and movie.

Actually you can. The case was resolved in 2005 #1845767 The People Vs. Napolean Dynamite. Not only can you apply for a refund but Jon Heder has to do 82 minutes of community service per complaitant.

I see you're from the UK. Maybe that's why it didn't connect with you.

From what I took away after watching Borat, he was trying to expose Americans' prejudice and inability to cope with different cultures.

This past month I've seen Casino Royal and 300. Both were great films, but for completely different reasons.
