When the phrase "history repeats itself" was coined, I doubt they were thinking that the exact same scenarios would play out over and over.
Oddly, I had no idea that there was a time when much of the world collectively agreed on the proper treatment of women only to have a large religiously based entity rubbish said idea. If you could kindly direct me to said historic happening, I'd greatly appreciate it.

Hardly the repeat I'm referring to.

The repeat I'm referring to is the discourse/difficulty with changing the status quo post-revolution.

Come now, it is patently obvious that islam doesn't. Just look at muslim-dominated societies to see that demonstrated.

When a religion becomes a state religion, it pretty much stops being that religion, and countries that have it implemented stop being accurate representations of said religion.

If you could be fairly confident of being jailed, executed or beaten for adultery, and your prospects for marriage forever destroyed, would you report a rape?

Once again, rape statistics only record rapes that are reported to the police. Westerners in the UAE are sometimes shocked to discover that when they report a rape to police, they are prosecuted themselves. No doubt the local women know better.

Please stop posting your garbage statistics as if they prove something about Islamic countries protecting women. The morality laws in Islamic states are horrible, and their impact is a free pass for anyone who wants to rape a woman. If she cannot report it without fear of prosecution, she has no protection at all. No wonder it seems like a woman can't even walk down the street without bringing a man to protect her from rapists!

Well, if Mohammed said that people, or even "just" believers, are all brothers, like fingers on a hand, nobody before the other, and that you should take care of widows and the poor etc. no questions asked, and since obviously Jesus said the same if not more, then not even communism comes close to anything they were talking about, a lot of suggestions considered radical in today's mainstream are tame compared to what they said. And no state of the size, complexity and corruption we are used to can co-exist with something that has just a bunch of laws that everybody knows, and needs no hierarchical structures of intermediaries for. These things are in my opinion incompatible with mortals having power over mortals, and not just in spirit, but they are littered with safeguards against it, like tank those tank barriers. Now looking at what Christianity and Islam often do with that, well bleh. The focus is all on the wrong stuff, on silly BS like gay marriage in the US (WHILE the nation goes to (perpetual) war, no less). Before the poor aren't fed, and while kids are homeless, let's tell other people what to do in the bedroom, or even persecute them for it... if I was the devil and human misery really my main goal, I'd be high fiving myself a lot.

It's sad that such primitive cultural norms and mindsets still exist in the modern world.

When it comes to worldviews, I think the level of advancement and the quality of life speaks for itself.

To be fair, though, those are subjective things.

Advancement isn't a priority for everyone, and what constitutes "quality of life" is pretty up in the air.

The waiter was found to be innocent through investigations

Khamis al-Muzinah, deputy commander of the Dubai police, told Reuters.
“The police didn’t find any proof that anything happened in the bathroom,” Muzinah said.
The investigation found that the British woman had been very drunk and an Indian bartender had helped her find the toilets, where two female staff were present at the time, Muzinah said.
She vomited several times and fell asleep on a chair before being escorted back to her boyfriend by one of the two female staff, he said.
During questioning the following day, the woman told police that she had been sharing a hotel room with her boyfriend and that they had had sex, which led to the couple being arrested.

That is a drama, both were muslims and they came to Dubai to enjoy drinking and sex.!!!!!!

Of course they know already that sex out of marriage isn't allowed in Dubai, then why she had to say i was doing the """" with my boyfriend.

The waiter story wasn't true and fake with 2 witnesses confirming it.
Both were Muslims came from Britain to the hotel for drink and sex.!!!!!:slap:

if you want to beleive such drama to be real, then good luck for your intellegence.

Do you 'know' or believe?
Oh well you see its an initiative of the IMF anyone who goes to a country we dont like gets their travel expenses reimbursed if they claim to have been assaulted there... so its kind of like just one of the things to do you know... see the sites, accuse people of rape... Or maybe just maybe it actually happens. Which of the two are more likely that all the claims are simply created by foreigners set to discredit the region they traveled to or that when they got there maybe their welcome by what is probably a relatively small but apparently quite active portion of the population wasnt quite what they had expected?

There were three stories there. Do you have equally ridiculous excuses for the other two as well? What about the kidnapping / gang rape where police also prosecuted the victim and did not investigate the crime? In my country, a suspect is not proven innocent just by saying he's innocent. The police did not even check to see if she had been raped. They gathered no evidence except what would help them convict her of unrelated crimes.

Besides which, the innocence or guilt of the accused is completely irrelevant to my point. What sane woman would report a rape in the UAE knowing that the police are more likely to prosecute her for immorality than to investigate whether a rape took place?
