Saved from what?

Another of my 57 reasons why Calvinism doesn't work. In God is perfect freedom. In God, we are free to love, or accept, free to choose abundant life. God is love. Love does not coerce. Love offers choice.

Perfect is not setting humans up to fall just so God can play hero.

You know, this one caught my eye earlier but I just never responded. Feel compelled to now.
You know I thought the same thing. There was something funky about that, and I just couldn't put my finger on it.
Abrahamic religions are really the only ones that put such an emphasis on thier "one and only whole truth," and "being chosen and/or saved" while all others are dammed, IMO. Of course not all of them, but a lot of them. Evangelicals and similar being the most hardcore about that. I really don't see why Kcnorwoods OP was given such discredit. What is being discussed, I think, is that which is lacking in others belief systems that evangelicals and others think they need to be saved from. I think it's a pretty daggum good topic. :rainbow1:

1 John reveals that God is love. But God is also holy and just. :)
Holy because God's set apart from us. And (I'd like to know), what's so just about a condemnation for eternity? Not even imperfect humans do that. At some point, we look for reconciliation. I'll bet God does, too!

I think if we get back to the main question, what does God save us from we can have additional insight? What is the consequences of being broken? Or, what does broken mean? Jesus saves sinners according to the Scriptures. What does Jesus save us from?

1 Timothy 1:15:
Here is a trustworthy saying that deserves full acceptance: Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners—of whom I am the worst.

I am not ashamed of the gospel, because it is the power of God for the salvation of everyone who believes: first for the Jew, then for the Gentile. For in the gospel a righteousness from God is revealed, a righteousness that is by faith from first to last, just as it is written: "The righteous will live by faith."

God's Wrath Against Mankind - Rom 1

The wrath of God is being revealed from heaven against all the godlessness and wickedness of men who suppress the truth by their wickedness, since what may be known about God is plain to them, because God has made it plain to them. For since the creation of the world God's invisible qualities—his eternal power and divine nature—have been clearly seen, being understood from what has been made, so that men are without excuse.
I'm not sure if you are agreeing or disagreeing with me here.

I hear that many times when I go to my Grandparents' Baptist Church, but I don't think I've heard it in my Catholic Church. I think it basically means that you will be "saved" from evil by having everlasting life in heaven.

I think the question is "what does God save you from"? I'm not sure if we are saying the same thing.

My answer was the wrath of God. God saves us from Himself as righteous judge, and He saves us to Himself as Heavenly Faither.

I believe your answer was - myself.

God didn't creat sin. Sin isn't a creation -- it's a state of being. We sin when we distance ourselves from God.

Isaiah 45:7 I form the light, and create darkness; I make peace, and create evil; I, the LORD, do all these things.

Come on people read your bible.......I'm a Pagan I should not have to tell you what the bible says..Unless of course your calling your God a liar. Are you?

"Evil" and "sin" are two different things.

So God has a split personality?

That's kind of what I thought about the Fishy's post. Sounds like "god" is pretty two-faced in that religion. Yet another reason to not be a part of it.

Then we do disagree.

"The wrath of God" is a response to something, it's not something that is innately part of Him.
