School board meeting in North Carolina about a book

The problem is the age range.
It's not the book per se.

I am shocked...really.
Americans forbid middle-schoolers from drinking alcohol, but they encourage them to read that stuff.
They are not "encouraged". Once again, this is a library book. It is available for those that are curious or think that they have a need to know.

You have not dealt with banning the Bible for the same reasons.

That's exactly like saying "guns aren't dangerous".
But when people gain possession, the people can & do become dangerous.
Also, recent research is showing that alcohol damages health more than previously thought.

That explains a few things.
Abuse of alcohol is dangerous

It's up to the parents. If they want to give that book to fifth graders, they can give it to them. It's their children, after all.

Btw..I used to play with Barbies at ten.
I had no idea of what sex was.
I see no reason why the parents couldn’t give it to them. But I see no reason why it couldn’t be available at school. If the parents don’t want them accessing it, they need to have a conversation with their children. It seems a little much to expect that the world will censor itself in areas that are deemed age appropriate just because some parents don’t want their children accessing that information.

If you were playing with barbies, then you probably wouldn’t be perusing the sexual development section of the library.

Make up your mind. Is it a library book or a textbook for class?

Children should not be exposed to either without guidance. This appears to be a textbook for a class. So it would be shown with supervision.

As usual you are not paying attention. I assumed by the video that this book was being used as a textbook. It was not. The pastor grossly overreacted to a library book. Your source said noting about where it was to be found. It did not even say what city it was in. I found that out and linked a source. Ironically it was a FOX News source. At least they still have some degree of honesty and they reported it as a library book.

Didn't you even see the qualifier in my earlier post that you quoted? There was a qualifier there since I was not absolutely sure.

I linked a PDF of the book. Have you read it at all?

Yes. At 12 I thought I did need a bottle of vodka...but in the US it's not available...;)

Have you read that book? I have read about a third of it this morning. You can do the same:

file:///C:/Users/DOUGH/Downloads/9780763668723.pdf

I have seen some pages here and there on the internet.
The book has nothing wrong per se.
It's the age range, which should be changed.

He clearly says "be able to check it out of the school system" at around the 2 minute 11 second mark.

Last time I checked(no pun intended), People check books out of the library.

I tend to agree with the man about "if you don't want to hear it".

Watch the 3 1/2 minute video then give your thoughts

Nudity and sex are not intrinsically pornographic. What can be harmful to children is to make a game of "hide & seek" with nudity & sex so it could become an obsession.

A couple of decades ago, there was a scientific study done in Italy, and one finding was that women and men were deemed more erotic when their breasts and genitals were partially hidden and not fully exposed.

Gandhi recognized the above fact, and he encouraged his followers to not always wear clothes and that communal bathing was actually notta problem per se.

They will.

Better to have the information before they need it than after it is too late.
All this optimism is surrealistic... ;)
I recall our talks in the recess with my female classmates...
They were all depressed because all the males of the school were either unattractive or sexually immature.
Our favorite movies was The Virgin Suicides...because we thought that that's would be our tragic faith...
We were all 18-19

It turns out that this is NOT a text book. It is a library book. So if one is going to ban it one has to ban the Bible for the same reasons:

The Bible not only references questionable sex practices, but it contains graphic violence and killing, and a perverse morality.
