Second Coming

Since you are a former Christian, what Bible verses is this belief based upon?
There are no Bible verses that I have ever been able to find where Jesus says that he is going to return to earth.

Verses that say that we will see the Son of man coming in the clouds do not count as Jesus saying that he will return.

to ''see'' can mean to understand . to come in the clouds means not visible to the eye.you may of noticed you cant see through clouds ,yet you may know something is there

That is correct, and I think that is what those verses that say 'we shall see' mean.
I think they mean we will recognize him as the Son of man and understand that it is him.

Mark 14:62 And Jesus said, I am: and ye shall see the Son of man sitting on the right hand of power, and coming in the clouds of heaven.

Matthew 24:30 And then shall appear the sign of the Son of man in heaven: and then shall all the tribes of the earth mourn, and they shall see the Son of man coming in the clouds of heaven with power and great glory.

Matthew 26:64 Jesus saith unto him, Thou hast said: nevertheless I say unto you, Hereafter shall ye see the Son of man sitting on the right hand of power, and coming in the clouds of heaven.

Mark 13:26 And then shall they see the Son of man coming in the clouds with great power and glory.
to come in the clouds means not visible to the eye.you may of noticed you cant see through clouds ,yet you may know something is there
To explain in brief, I believe that ‘Son of man coming in the clouds of heaven’ means that the return of the Christ Spirit promised in the Bible will be made manifest from the heaven of the will of God, and will appear in the form of a human being. The term “heaven” means loftiness and exaltation. Although Jesus was delivered from the womb of His mother, in reality He descended from the heaven of the will of God. Though dwelling on this earth, His true habitation was the realms above. While walking among mortals on earth, Jesus soared in the heaven of the divine presence.

I do not think that 'coming in the clouds of heaven' is referring to the physical clouds in the sky.
Rather, it is referring to man's judgment being clouded.

I believe that 'Son of man coming in the clouds of heaven' means that the return of Christ will appear in the form of another human being. The term “clouds” as used in the Bible means those things that are contrary to the ways and desires of men. Just like the physical clouds prevent the eyes of men from beholding the sun, these things hindered men from recognizing the return of Christ.

In other words, the judgment of most people was clouded when Christ returned and it is still clouded for most people.

One thing that clouds the judgment of Christians is their desire for the same Jesus to return to earth.

''Jerusalem, coming down out of heaven '' refers to the kingdom goverment taking over to govern the earth.

That too.

“The kingdom of the world has become the kingdom of our Lord and of his Christ, and he shall reign forever and ever.”

its not going to be a structure somewhere on earth

It's still a physical structure. And it still has to land on earth after the thousand years of Revelation 20. It's cloaked in orbit of earth. Not far away. Close enough that we could see it easily with the naked eye. And easier enough for it's inhabitants to look back down on us. When the time comes for it to bust out of it's cloak, I think it's this:

"Then God’s temple in heaven was opened, and the ark of his covenant was seen within his temple. There were flashes of lightning, rumblings, peals of thunder, an earthquake, and heavy hail.

People on earth are going to be able to look up and see it. When it comes down and lands on earth, we will be in it. It's been our Home for the previous thousand years. It has to land on earth for Judgement Day. All of the dead will then be raised on earth. This is the second resurrection. And the sea gave up the dead who were in it, Death and Hades gave up the dead who were in them, and they were judged, each one of them, according to what they had done. And the dead marched up over the broad plain of the earth and surrounded the camp of the saints and the beloved city. And they were judged, each one of them, according to what they had done.

Can you imagine the sight of this? This massive building, bright and shinny, stretching across the American continent, one side in Canada, the other in Mexico, and reaching up to the stratosphere. Scientists have said that it's too big to be a square, gravity would force it into a sphere. And all of the resurrected lost from all of time surrounding this Holy City. Through the open gates of pearl they can see the tree of life. Satan convinces them their only chance for survival at this point is to rush the gates, and get to the tree of life. Based on their sheer numbers, some think it doable.

"And they marched up over the broad plain of the earth and surrounded the camp of the saints and the beloved city, but fire came down from heaven and consumed them, and the devil who had deceived them was thrown into the lake of fire and sulfur where the beast and the false prophet were, and they will be tormented day and night forever and ever.

So it has to come down to earth for this to happen.

Peaceful Sabbath.

That sounds about right. We will all govern, "By its light will the nations walk. The Kingdom of God. The Government of God, ruled from New Jerusalem.

Without any crime, we won't need things like jails or gun laws.

"No longer will there be anything accursed, but the throne of God and of the Lamb will be in it, and his servants will worship him. They will see his face, and his name will be on their foreheads. And night will be no more. They will need no light of lamp or sun, for the Lord God will be their light, and they will reign forever and ever.

Since early on in U.S. history, American preachers have wanted to predict the “second coming” of Jesus Christ. Cotton Mather bet on the years 1697, 1716, and 1736, without obvious results. Jonathan Edwards thought it would happen sometime soon after 1742, in the wake of the Great Awakening.[ref1] In the early 1800s evangelist Charles Finney once declared that with some hard work on gospel missions and moral reform, in just 3 years evangelicals might bring in Jesus’s thousand-year-reign.[ref 2]

William Miller, a farmer and founder of the Millerite cult, gave end-time predictions within the range of March 21, 1843 and April 18,1844.[ref 3, 4] When April 18, 1844, came and went, Miller apologized and backed off. But one of his followers, Samuel Snow, took another crack at it and predicted Jesus would come back on October 22, 1844—a night later referred to by Adventists as “the Great Disappointment”. Followers reconciled themselves to the notion that some unseen spiritual event in heaven—not on earth—must have happened then.[ref 5]

That's a very small sampling of predictions made through the ages. And, well, 2000 years later after the death of Jesus, isn't it all embarrassing to those who believe in this second coming of a dead man?

I’m meant to believe, not to do science and know things, that’s pointless for me. Just live life, and it will happen.

Muffled

Jesus in me
I believe that Jesus is alive in Paradise with eternal life, as those who believe in Him are going to get when they go to Paradise.
There is NO NEED for Jesus to return for us to get eternal life.

Jesus told us how we get eternal life:
John 17:3 Now this is eternal life: that they know you, the only true God, and Jesus Christ, whom you have sent.
I believe there are two forms of etternal life just as there are two forms of th Kingdom of God. There is the spiritual and the physcial. John 17:3 refers to the spiritual.

Muffled

Jesus in me
Please note that verse 42 says “Therefore keep watch, because you do not know on what day your Lord will come."

Jesus is not our Lord.
Never did Jesus say that he was going to return to earth -- NEVER EVER.

Christianity has so many false teachings that they are uncountable. You cannot blame the Bible for that.
I believe He didn't have to the angels said it for Him.

John 17:3 And this is life eternal, that they might know thee the only true God, and Jesus Christ, whom thou hast sent.
Yes, that refers to spiritual life.

There is no eternal life for the physical body, only for the soul.

Yes, there are two forms of the Kingdom of God, the inward one within us and the outer one that will be built on earth.

Since early on in U.S. history, American preachers have wanted to predict the “second coming” of Jesus Christ.
Why were they waiting for Jesus Christ? Don't they read their Bibles?

Jesus never promised to return to earth, not once in the New Testament. Jesus said His work was finished here and He was no more in the world.

John 14:19 Yet a little while, and the world seeth me no more; but ye see me: because I live, ye shall live also.

John 16:10 Of righteousness, because I go to my Father, and ye see me no more.

John 17:4 I have glorified thee on the earth: I have finished the work which thou gavest me to do.

John 17:11 And now I am no more in the world, but these are in the world, and I come to thee. Holy Father, keep through thine own name those whom thou hast given me, that they may be one, as we are.

William Miller, a farmer and founder of the Millerite cult, gave end-time predictions within the range of March 21, 1843 and April 18,1844.[ref 3, 4] When April 18, 1844, came and went, Miller apologized and backed off. Again, why would anyone who has read their Bible expect to see Jesus return to this world when Jesus said "the world seeth me no more"?
