Texas legislature is trying to violate the First Amendment:

aged ecumenical anthropologist

That's right, trying to give Florida Man a run for his money the Texas State legislature tries to show that they are even more idiotic. They passed a bill ordering the posting of the Ten Commandments in public schools. How will non-Abrahamic religions respond?
Texas state government under Abbott and his henchmen are wrapped up in Christian Nationalism and White Nationalism, so nothing they propose surprises me.

The motto you will see written literally everywhere in Italy is The law is equal for all.

You won't find double standards in Italy. :)

That doesn't add up. They erected those statues to remind people of the Confederate States period.
So the American Civil War is something they wouldn't skip.
You don't need a monument to Hitler to remind people world war 2 happened.

The majority of the statues were erected during the Jim Crow period as a means to intimidate black people in the south. The history of this practice is well documented.

So if that sentence can be present on a bill, so can the Ten Commandments in a classroom.
Many theocrats believe that.
They'd like to return to what I endured in public
school back in the 50s, ie, teachers reading Bible
stories, teaching religion, & leading students in
prayer. The fight continues against Christians
who want to use government to impose their
religion on everyone.

I am remarking that the name God is omnipresent in American public sector.
In God we trust, so help me God...
And there are lots of Americans who object to the use of those phrases on currency, license plates, courthouse walls, and so on. Just because we have them doesn't mean it's okay, just that it's difficult to get conservative religion out of the public sector because of idiots like those in the Texas legislature...

It shouldn't be on a bill, either. A secular democracy that's supposed to represent all citizens can't exhibit partiality toward any religion.
With only Christians on SCOTUS, they rationalize
away the separation of church & state. Just call
it "historical" & claim that it's not a "substantial
burden".
Of course, if the money said "In Allah We Trust",
things would be very different.

Unfortunately those idiots who remove other idiots, get idiots who just want to take more and more than what they ought to have. and it takes more idiots to remove yet more idiots.

That gives me an idea. Uncirculated stamps make money for the post office. If one can do the same with printed money that would "make money" for the government. Just like quarters that have different parks and monuments now various denominations could feature different gods. If your God came up you might want to buy those bills and stock up on them. Bills slowly deflating in value is an interest free loan for the US at the very least. Collect your own today.

I can't wait for "In Quob We Trust".

You know, even the Texas legislators must be aware that the Supreme Court (even the current one) could not possibly let that bill stand, and would strike it down. Schools are most assuredly part of the "establishment," and the First Amendment provides that Congress make no law respecting an establishment of religion or prohibiting its free exercise. This is just too clear for any Justice to get away with claiming that something is being "read into" the Amendment's meaning.

So, then, we must ask the question about why Texas Republicans are going ahead with this? WHat is their goal? Is it just to con so many ignorant Texans that don't know any better? Do they really think so little of their own constituents?

Christians fleeing oppressive Christians.
I know.

And then these WASP Christians came to America and began to oppress Native American religions, traditions, languages, and culture. Native American children were taken and placed into American Indian Boarding Schools, where the WASP Christians proceeded to aggressively "Kill the Indian, Save the Man" in order to assimilate these children into white Christian society. The children were beaten and/or denied food if they spoke in their native tongue.

As it is commonly perpetuated among most evangelical conservative Christians, "Religious freedom for me, but none for thee."

Sometimes legislators do this just so that they can claim to have voted for something when they run for reelection. That it will never stand up to legal scrutiny does not bother them. They can just blame the media or some other innocent fall guy for their waste of the taxpayer's time and money.
