I have to tell you, that I have always admired Ghandi. He accomplished a lot with no violence. Even Martin Luther King, Jr. (a Christian) learned from Ghandi.

You were clear, im just not clever. I agree 110% with that, and i will try to put this into reference. I'm never good with sciptural references. I cant only give my word, which for some peopke isn't enough.

How did you know about BAPS?Well i am shocked, frubals for your great thinkging.

Christine, makes me think though, do you think a violent rebellion could have resulted in a stronger effect?

In hinduism, oen thing that we've been proud of is our knowledge. ALways wanting to know more and more, never stop learning. Especially with religion. You must be able to entertain a thought without accepting it. Hindusim has always taught to about otherreligions. It's important to know and not be an ignorant pig. If you know more, the more respected you are.

No way. Violence only leads to more violence. Both Ghandi and MLK did more with nonviolence than they could have with violence.

As far as I'm concerned, this is the single greatest strength of Hinduism, and its most stark contrast against 'exclusivist' religions. Others can learn a great lesson from this.

I've always thought ahimsa was, but i chatch your drift. Learning thing liek this can stop racial deaths...

Christine, i eman if we gave the Brits a good thumping, they might be afraid to ever say no, unless we ask them to, i'd like that....

I agree, violence does lead to more violence.
BUt I do disagree with the idea that violence never solves anything.

Maybe I should rephrase. Sometimes the only way to stop something is with violence, but it should be a last resort when nothing else will work.

I noticed that a lot of people in Eastern religions seem very, very wise and at peace with themselves. Right now, I am reading books written by Thich Nhat Hanh, who is a Vietnamese Buddhist Monk. I greatly admire the things he has written. He seems to be an incredibly wise and good person.

Sounds like a good read.
Problem is, I do not understand written Vietnamese.
To be perfectly honest with you, I do not understand spoken Vietnamese either.
In fact, if I were to bare my soul, I would have to admit that I would not even recognize the language as Vietnamese regardless of it being spoken or written.

Try moderating a Pagan forum. Christians would come into the forum on attack mode from the start. "You will burn in hell" was a very common comment. Most of the time, I skipped the warning system all together and permanently banned them.

This rings sort of true.....I was a member of a mostly muslim forum and there a bunch of christians who displayed themselves in this manner. I don't think (all) go on the attack... but a lot of them do....

Done here.
Atheists rarely attack Islam, Judaism, Hinduism, Buddhism, Jainism, Paganism directly...probably because it's not as much fun as flamebaiting Christians.
Atheists often criticize Islam and Judaism just as strongly as Christianity, and Hinduism and even Buddhism have come in for a fair amount of criticism, too.

We rarely criticize Jains and Pagans, because although their religions aren't necessarily any more rational than the others, they're not hurting anybody. For the same reason, Hindus and especially Buddhists get less criticism than the Abrahamic religions.

I belong to some all Christian boards and some of the atheists there are always on the attack, too. The atheists at the RF are civil and usually kind. Also, I belong on Star Trek, MASH, and certain music group fans sites, and sometimes people come on there telling everyone that the show or music we listen to is stupid. Some people (including Christians, ahem) seem to love to make others miserable.

In the real world, a politician dare not claim he /she is an atheist, for it means death threats and the end of their career. There is strong anti-atheist sentimment in the media and among the public at large, which may explain why atheists at some times can get defensive.
