The Health Care Bill Passes!

If you would take the time to read the analysis of the bill, rather than tuning the radio to Limbaugh, Hannity, Beck, and Malkin, you would know that the bill will be saving money and cutting the national debt over time.

Then again, anyone that would simply dismiss 30 to 50 million people as "bottom feeders, freeloaders, or hardcore Democrats" really isn't interested in hearing the truth at the expense of having someone else do their thinking for them.
Why should I lose everything so that the national debt is "cut?" I did not vote to give billions to the banks. I did not vote to give billions to GM and Chrysler. The government wants to spend til our dollar is worthless and then bankrupt me personally to fix the situation. Hey, maybe we should just print more money, give it to the insurance companies, and call it socialist medicine?

I feel like I am trying to explain to a 3 year old why we can't afford a chocolate bar today. The money is not there so we cannot spend it.

... and I feel like I'm listening to a newborn ideologue try to remember what he heard on Faux News last night, as Sarah Palin told him why this program will bankrupt America without having read the bill or any analysis of it.

Lets see, I just figured some things out for my own family.
To get my entire family on my wives insurance, (I am not offered any) it will cost us about 35% of our total income without the Health Care Reform Bill. (We are just out of the Medicaid cutoff).
Right now, we are one medical tragedy away from total bankruptcy.

With the new bill, our entire family will qualify for Medicaid until one of us gets a decent raise, we will then pay about 4% of our income to get family coverage.

You said that you missed the threshhold for state assistance by a few hundred dollars. I seriously doubt you'd be paying 10% of your income for health insurance.
I don't care if I only have to pay 1%. We do not have the extra money. We don't even have a bunch of turnips handy that we can squeeze blood out of for this. The extra money does not exist in any capacity. We are tapped. We take care of ourselves, and budgeted for what we have before they added this burden on us. Maybe they can go ahead and double minimum wage to help us all?

Can you go ahead and contribute 4% of your income to me then? We do not have an extra 4% to give to private insurance carriers right now. If you could send this to me weekly through PayPal I would appreciate it. Please mark it as a gift though because anything else carries a fee.

Or hey, maybe we could just invade six more countries, run up the national debt until the sun can't even rise over it, and act like "deficit spending" is God's plan for all of us because Saint Reagan said it was so.

Where was your indignation at all of the debt run up over the last 30 years while we gave massive tax cuts to the rich and sweetheart deals to the petroleum industry?

I'm a fiscal conservative (probably much more so than you are), but let's try not to act like this mountain of debt is the result of social programs that started in January of 2010. Let's at least have the integrity and honesty to admit that, at the very least, this program will do some good, rather than nothing but damage.

And while we're at it, why don't you go ahead and take 10 minutes out of your day to Google up just how this program will be funded. After you've educated yourself beyond the scope of Faux News, we can have an intelligent discussion.

If you make less than 133% of the Federal Poverty level, ($30,000 for a family of four), you will now qualify for expanded Medicare for yourself and your entire family.

Or you can tell me how my buying an insurance policy that I do not want or need pays off the national debt and helps underprivileged Americans.

Sounds like a typical bottom feeding freeloader, crying about his financial woes.

Get a job, and keep voting Republican.

We do not have 10% of our household income burning a hole in our pocket right now. We live paycheck to paycheck. Will Obama mandate a 10% raise for her and increase my VA benefit by 10% so that we have 10% to give back to them?

I feel like I am trying to explain to a 3 year old why we can't afford a chocolate bar today. The money is not there so we cannot spend it.

10% is at the high end. If you're living paycheck to paycheck it may cost her zero, or very little. I'm trying to explain to you that she will be entitled to a substantial subsidy. She will have something she doesn't have now, and which she does need, health insurance, at low or no cost to her.

I think before you go off on the bill, you need to find out exactly what it's going to mean to your family in dollars and cents. I think you will find that it helps you.

And again, yes they do need health insurance. Really.

And I feel like I'm trying to explain to someone why they need to buy oil for their car when the dipstick's dry. If you can't afford a quart or two of oil, then you definitely can't afford what's going to happen if you don't buy it.

I don't care if I only have to pay 1%. We do not have the extra money. We don't even have a bunch of turnips handy that we can squeeze blood out of for this. The extra money does not exist in any capacity. We are tapped.
IOW, the difference between financial survival and financial ruin for you is one minor medical incident?

We take care of ourselves, and budgeted for what we have before they added this burden on us.
Does that budget include unexpected medical expenses?

I remember a few years back, my wife got bitten by a spider when I was out for a walk. It turns out that she's allergic to them; neither of us had any idea until it happened. She ended up spending the night in the ER, getting medication administered by IV. We both have decent jobs, but if we didn't have health insurance (in our case, provided directly by the government), we would've probably been bankrupted by something that was completely unexpected.

You said your fiance has two kids, right? How much do you want to bet that they'll both get to age 18 without either of them breaking a limb? Based on what I remember of classmates with casts growing up, the odds are probably against you. Have you budgeted for that?

Maybe they can go ahead and double minimum wage to help us all?
Maybe. IMO, the minimum wage in many US states is shamefully and dangerously low.

Y'all can think what you want about Mr. Pied Piper/Obama. What you or I think will not make this tragedy go away. Only time will tell. Hey, I would love to be wrong. I doubt I am though. Who knows, this may be good in a roundabout way. Maybe Americans will finally take up arms and fight to take their country back from tyranny.

Well, instead of wild rantings, let's see if we can get some facts, can we? Would you please go to this site and plug in your fiance's numbers and let us know the results?

I just did it for my uninsured collaborator-in-life, the lovely V. (And lest you ask, she is a hard worker.) She usually makes around $22K. She will get health insurance at a cost to her of $1,410, and a cost to the rest of us of $4,220. So that will be $117 per month for her. Right now it would cost her around $400 a month. She can afford $117; she can't afford $400. So the bill will help her.

What about you, enchanted?

Why would you lose your home? If you can't afford health insurance, then wouldn't you qualify for a subsidy?

Shhh, no need for facts here. Facts only get in the way of his irrational hatred and fear of democrats, Obama and anything they try to do. I know because I've tried to tell him this very thing several times already.

People don't need to worry about what to think. They are teaching it in schools. Here in MD they were passing out play magic money for good deeds to students with a pic of Obama and it said "In Obama WE Trust"

Not sure I buy that. Gotta pic of this money?

Also, what's so bad about teaching it's ok to trust our president? I don't get it.
