Le and la confuses me. I thought "the old guard" would be "le vieille garde" but everywhere I checked it was "la vieille garde".

It seems simple enough, masculine and feminine.... I'll stick to bloke and blokette.

You've got problems, g gets me, and i live here.
It's usually soft like j unless its not soft but hard, there is no rhyme or reason for whatever sound is used but it must be correct.

Example, close to where live is the village of La Roque Gageac, it's pronounced Gajeac.

One simply does not say Jajeac or Gageac, WHY???
