How do you suppose this idiom fits exactly? It implies a thing or situation that can't be improved. If transitioning has improved the lives of those who have done it, then the idiom doesn't work.

It implies at certain levels some things can't be changed.

Science / doctors / biologists claim that almost always a newborn can be assigned as male or female, based on observation of their bodies.

How the law and the jurisprudence defines trans-sexuality.
Trans-sexuality, to sum up, is the condition where the person doesn't identify with the endocrine system and the sexual apparatus that nature provided them at birth so, for the sake of their own psychological and physical welfare they rely on medicine and surgery to make their body and their endocrine system align with the gender they identify with. It's an alignment of the body to the psyche.
It's a very serious medical condition that medicine can correct and improve.

It improves because the men who have a female soul, can finally have an endocrine system similar to that of a biological woman. So they take hormones, they have surgery, the voice becomes feminine, the face becomes feminine.
Same as a woman who feels her endocrine system is that of a man.

But juridically, the law of my country doesn't recognize the existence of transgender because if a man dresses as a woman, the State couldn't care less. The registry office will not change the M into F because of that.

As you keep repeating this, I thought I'd test it to see if it was true. It definitely didn't become a gem. It just broke up and got smeared all over my hands and then everything I touched. Did I polish it too hard do you think? Or maybe not hard enough? I believe diamonds are formed under conditions of great pressure. Maybe I'll try squeezing it in a vice .... no, I just got sh*t all over my work bench.

Years ago I came across that meaning. My boss asked me to write what I would have called a "draft" proposal, and referred to it as a "strawman". I told her what you just said, that it means something totally different, that is something that deliberately misrepresents an opponent's position so it can be easily refuted. I did what she asked, but refused to call it a "strawman". I had never heard that usage of the word before and (until now) haven't since. I suspect it was one of those words that pop up in "business-speak" from time to time, like saying "spend" instead of "expenditure".
