Trump Base Shows Signs of Cracking

I'm not surprised. My old coworkers nearly all voted for trump and were all excited for his presidency; now we are several months into it, a rather larger portion are starting to regret their decision.
I'm glad to hear it. I know so few people who (presumably) voted for Trump, and all of those apparently vote according to party.

Trump isn't loosing his base, it's as strong as ever. What you're looking at there is where "Republican" includes both conservatives and the Establishment. And it doesn't show Democrat and especially Independent support. His campaign and election has turned on the political blender. He's picked up a lot of private sector union support, especially those from the white working class, who the Dems openly wrote off during the last 2 elections.
75% (and falling) of Republicans supporting him won't get him re-elected.

The thing is that the intelligence community have it out for Trump (for good reason). They always get their man.

Please explain to me how Hilary is in anyway relevant.
I just did.
To rephrase....
Trump's support rested largely in his being less objectionable than Hillary.
Since the latter has not become more attractive, this element is still largely intact.
Moreover, he had little Republican Party support, so their opposition to him is also nothing new.
Thus, I don't see support cracking....there just wasn't much there to begin with.

But that makes no sense. It is no longer a matter of choosing between Hillary and Donald. Hilary is out of the picture. Impeaching Trump does not make Hilary president. If you don't like Trump there is no need to support him. The bad lady has gone away and cannot hurt you anymore.

I'll explain again.
It is no longer a matter of choosing between Hillary and Donald.
Of course there is no longer a choice....the election is over.
But when there was a choice, a large element of Trump's voter pool was
people who chose him over the more objectionable alternative. To this day,
this relationship between Donald & Hillary still exists, ie, we still don't prefer her.
This "support" does not appear to be "cracking".
Thus, my claim directly addresses the OP.

Are you trying to get me kicked out of the thread, you rascal?

Are you saying that the support is not cracking because Trump supporters are irrational?

It is like jumping off a cliff to avoid a bear. A questionable decision to begin with, but when the bear is no longer there, it is absolutely insane.

The analogy has some shortcomings, but......
Once one has jumped, it matters not if the bear is still there.
The choice was made for reasons at the time.
No reason to regret the choice.
Had a different choice been made, it would've been to be mauled to death.

We are not talking about revisiting the choice that has been made. We are talking about what you think now. Again, please consult a calendar.

I don't think his base is cracking that much. They'll go down in flames with him. They'll support Trump even if he guns someone down.
The people he's losing are the ones more on the fence, the more moderate republicans that settled for Trump. They're realizing that they fell for the pre-election fake news. And the warnings were real about Trumpinov.

The supporters having different opinions on Trump are feeling guilty for what they've done.

It Aint Necessarily So

unless they start seeing some tangible results in their own communities soon, then Trump's support base will shatter into a million pieces.

That might be a little optimistic.

How much evidence did those people ignore before the election? There are no surprises here. About half the country saw it coming. They weren't just disappointed with the outcome of the election. They were terrified by it. People began protesting immediately - women and scientists most memorably. Secularists everywhere are organizing to fight this president.

So just what are we expecting from the Trump base? That they suddenly become reason and evidence oriented? That they suddenly start caring about Trump's character?

I would say it's a difference between evidence which is provided by the media or other outside sources, as opposed to what a person sees firsthand in one's own community.

To prohibit discussing Hillary would severely limit understanding of Trump's
support. So we'll have to agree to disagree about how to analyze the effect of
current events upon the durability of support from Trump's various sources.

If I may attempt to translate, Rev is saying that many people voted for Trump because they saw Hilary as the greater of two evils. Even if they now aren't too pleased with Trump, they still believe they made the right choice, as Hilary would have been worse (in their opinion). Thus, the support (for their decision) is not waning, even if support for Trump is.

You still don't get it. Traditional party lines have evaporated. It's the fascists with their useful idiot wannabes, vs those supporting rational thought (iow, politically incorrectness) in government and social interaction.

I'll note that access to information is a good thing.
But then judgement is required to evaluate it.
(This is opportunity for mischief.)
Given a choice between good judgement & good access.....I prefer the former.

Voting for Trump was bad judgment.
