According to this tradition reported by Ibn-e-Majah's Kitab-ul-Fitan, the Holy Prophet sa states:

It never happens that permissiveness (fahsha) overwhelms a people to the extent that they display their acts of sex shamelessly and they are not uniquely punished by God. Among them, invariably, pestilence is made to spread and such other diseases, the like of which have never been witnessed by their forefathers.2

The word fahsha means 'permissiveness' with the connotation of audacity and shamelessness, resulting in open display of sex. It should be noted that mere permissiveness does not warrant so severe a chastisement from Allah; but when it exceeds all bounds and is acknowledged as a commonly accepted social behaviour, then that society is affected with some completely new sex-related disease as a sign of God's displeasure.

The accusing finger of this hadith seems to be pointing at the sinfulness of the present age rather than that of any other. Such shamelessness as has been described in the hadith is displayed these days on television, in newspapers and in magazines, day in and day out, to the extent that it has never been witnessed before in human history."

According to an article I read a while ago and a few assorted sources, it seems that most Muslims would find it very inconsiderate to admit face front to an atheist friend or relative that they know of his/her atheism.

Far too close to saying that the atheist is weak in his faith or an outright ungrateful recipient of God's gift for confort, I assume.

It really seems to me that most Muslims think of atheism as some sort of disease or in rare occasions an actual crime. Calling someone an atheist is usually an attempt at insulting that person.

Perhaps in at least some cases they just think of us as arrogant or simply foolish people who can't see the truth or are too proud to admit or accept it?

I don't think most atheists (at least online) view Muslims as completely human. Look at all the hysterics over Muslim immigration and Islamification. As if Muslims can't function in liberal democracies the way vampires can't function in sunshine.

Edited to add: quite frankly, I don't see Muslims as all that different from many Christians. The wiser Muslims are far more reasonable than the worst Christians.

Although I don't agree with their beliefs, Muslims are humans just like the rest of us. I have experiences both good and bad with them. What I wouldn't want is any religious laws or compounds for anyone.

I believe if it were good Islam instead of bad Islam I wouldn't have a problem.

In good Islam it would be recognized that religious laws of Islam could not be imposed on people with a different belief. In bad Islam it is convert or die or follow the rules of Isalm or be punished.

I don't drink alcohol much so I wouldn't miss it.

Yes, you're right. That verse says to bring down over themselves part of their outer garment. At first "bringing down" sounded like doing it over the face since only what is up goes down. I guess being up is gradual and not specifically on the head, so I guess I was wrong. My bad. I guess it is a general modesty dress code for women that some Muslims these days take is extremely over board and include all body parts in it and in black.

I guess this leaves borrowing teachings from Christianity and Judaism. I see mother Marry presented with a head scarf and nuns wear similarly so as well. Maybe that is a teaching in Christianity that Islam adopted?
