probably because working to earn salvation is actually relying on self righteousness as oppossed to having faith in Jesus..
Also for every good thing we do we probably do a hundred bad things so if we were judged it would not be very good for us...

yes i agree. and faith in god puts some people in a morally superior position, which is only self appointed, because they believe...something they do.

not when you know you are just a sinner saved by grace, the more you rely on works the more likely you are to be self righteous or proud..:)

not sure why this scripture is being referenced..:)

Oh I see you are using mattew to make out we do good deeds, cool... it still does not cancel out all the bad things we do..

but at least i know why you used it know....:)

I don't have to. The Bible says that faith not works is acceptable for salvation therefore faith is not works.
faith cannot be faith without the ability to believe, which is a work...
it is something you do...
otherwise provide a definition of work and explain how belief isn't a work.

ultimately you play an important role in order to save yourself, you have to believe.

who is talking about canceling out the bad things we do?
i used matthew to show that jesus separated the sheep from the goats based on their deeds...
care to change the word of god again?
:tsk:
besides, it would be morally wrong to abandon ones responsibility and culpability wouldn't it...?
