What is a work?

e.r.m.

Church of Christ
no...
it's your choice...you and you alone are responsible for making that choice

We - believe in Him and are baptized in Jesus' name.
God - saves us. God alone does the "saving."

You're forgetting we are saved on God's terms, not ours.

gods terms are ultimately subjected to your terms...
like i said before, if i give you something it is still up to you to accept it.

to believe and to be baptized are actions YOU do...
these are words of action done on your end...you decide

Yes they are actions that God has called upon us to do & to choose to do or not. God's action is to save. That is His alone. God does not and has not commanded us to choose to save ourselves. He wants us to "BE saved" "by Him!"

You keep not mentioning God.

stay on target please.
you are side stepping the entire point of this thread..."what is a work?"
are we talking about what god has to offer or what you do in order to receive it?
no matter what god has done for you, his offer is still subjected to your acceptance of it...

I agree that we each have our part, responsibility, choice, all that. Do you agree on whose part is whose?

1 Peter 2:2 Be like newborn babies who are thirsty for the pure spiritual milk that will help you grow and be saved.

Help you be saved? Looks like Peter and Paul BOTH agree that their readers weren't necessarily saved merely by faith and that there was a process to it.....

no. belief and work are both nouns...
it's like saying...i am saved because i am me...
what is it about you that makes you saved...?
it is an action you do of something that sets you apart... believing (verb).
You're right. My bad, yet, belief is still not a Biblical work.

As newborn babes, desire the sincere milk of the word, that ye may grow thereby, is the actual verse. Notice, we are newborn, babes in Christ, born again by having trusted in what he did for us. We are babes who grow in grace by knowing his word.

What is a work? I believe if its something we add to what Christ did--he paid for ALL our sins on the cross, then it is actually detrimental to salvation. If one adds anything THEY do to what HE did, sorry, no gift, its debt owed, no salvation for you. If one has trusted alone in Christ alone for the free gift of salvation, then a work is a wonderful thing :).

ps u won't see me for a while, pc is shot and I'm back to work.

Good luck with your computer.

It's interesting that the Bible never makes use of the concept of "adding to what Christ did." That's a way of twisting the meaning of what IS written.

How about subtracting from everything Jesus actually said?

There's gonna be a lot of spat out Luke warms. Lots.

that is the thing though, it's through works (believing). that is the part YOU chose...

it takes 2 to tango.

8 For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith—and this is not from yourselves, it is the gift of God— 9 not by works, so that no one can boast.

the offer is gods alone..."it is the gift of god"
the belief is still something you decide for yourself...through faith

quite a riddle, this is :yoda:

You avoided the question. I am not going to ask again.

i answered it...
it takes 2 to tango...
there's a giver and there's a receiver..

i don't understand why you're getting so worked up about that...
isn't it nice to know you are ultimately capable of saving yourself?

Not worked up, but clear.
Don't be cryptic, name the giver and the receiver, and the giver of what?

the part you choose(verb) is to receive(verb) the salvation jesus/god offers... those are works...you work out your own salvation...

and what you do defines your beliefs...
