Can someone explain to me why Fargo is such a good movie?

I don't think it's a bad movie. Rather, I think it's an interesting and good movie. But it seems to be unanimously LOVED by everyone. Film critics, regular movie fans- everyone adores this movie. I liked it, but I guess I completely miss why it's considered so excellent.

The Life of David Gale - I'm not necessarily in agreement with the political message but the passion behind it was powerful and the ending was one of few I didn't see coming.

Yes, it was a powerful film. Another Spacey classic (did I mention K-Pax earlier..?)

It was on fire when I laid down on it.
Hey - WHAT ABOUT AMERICAN BEAUTY! We're all dancing around that fantastic flick.

Fargo is up there with Sling Blade and American Beauty in my book - full of dark humor and poignant vignettes of human nature. Great acting in all of those in my opinion.

American Beauty - of course it's a Spacey classic (but just not as classic as his others...Mid-life crisis , out of shape, a bit too close to home!!)

I remember when I was little my parents took us to see 2001:A Space Odyssey. It was one weird movie. The end I never understood. But then I was only a little kid.

I really liked the Dark Knight. A good villain goes really far in making a good movie.

Mr. Hair

Renegade Cavalcade
I'm probably gonna have to go with Brazil on this one. It's a film that contains so much wit and intelligence, and I really did fall in love with this movie in the very first minute of watching it. (And given that I'm a man, it's a genuine achievement to displace some of my love for fast cars, beer and boobies)

However, I can't entirely discount both Spirited Away and A Tale of Two Sisters. SA is just a pitch-perfect film, everything in it is exactly as it should be; whilst AToTS has some astonishingly cinematography and has more twisty turns then a twisty turny thing.

Some of my favorite movies are Disney movies from the "Disney Renaissance" of the 90's. So movies like Lion King, Aladdin, Mulan, Beauty and the Beast, I like.

And then I also like Studio Ghibli films like Princess Mononoke, Spirited Away, Howl's Moving Castle, and Nausicaa of the Valley of the Wind.
