I can't believe in a few hours there is an 8 page thread debate at RF over what a woman is, with much more of the debate ahead of us.
I think the factors present that lead to the label on a birth certificate, makes it fairly obvious to every person born in America, if they are a woman or not.
It doesn't strike me as being a complicated thing to figure out, but quite simple to identify a male or female at birth, and once that female is an adult, that is a woman.
Also, I think the word "womb", is where the "wom" in the word "woman" comes from, or what it stands for, in the etymology, so chances are, if you have a womb, you are a "wom"an. ;)
“Woman" comes from the Old English word, wīfman, meaning wife.
“Womb” comes from the Old English word wamb, which refers to the “belly, bowels, uterus, or heart" and various similar Germanic words meaning “belly” or “paunch.” It is more closely related to the Old English word for “child,” umbor.
The words look similar in modern English, but originally they were not so.
