What's For Dinner?

Last night fish and chips with cod. I do deep fry, though the approach is the same. The same batter, just fried and flipped. Very well received.

Tonight a rack of lamb, for me, the others are getting sirloin steak. I am the only lamb lover.
Update. Housemates had sirloin steak and <shudder> Beef Rice a Roni. And yes, there steak was dead, dead, dead.

Meanwhile with my rack of ribs I made garlic mashed potatoes. The lamb was on the other end of the spectrum. It was not dead, dead, dead,. In fact a couple of paddles and good zap of electricity and we might have had a lamb again. Okay, I double checked and it takes a bit more than that. Seriously I will crank my oven at least another ten degrees, and probably twenty five for the next time. Oven thermostats are often off a a bit and my rack could have used a bit more of a sear on the outside. But it was still delicious.

Little Caeser's.

We don't have one locally anymore, and the kids wanted to stop while we were traveling.

Do Americans eat fishcakes?

Yes! The most widely known would be salmon patties and crab cakes, but I also occasionally make patties with canned tuna, and grew up eating mackerel cakes. Having a can of mackerel in my cabinet when a lonesome stray started hunting under my birdfeeders is what made me the proud momma of my feline fur-baby, Mackie. An appropriate name, especially since he is now too spoiled to eat such! LOL

Maple -- seriously, I grew up in a home where you eat what's put on the table. Two things, that I love as an adult, that I had to drown in syrup to eat as a child, were collards and mackerel cakes.
Mackerel can be very very fishy. It was the on fish in sushi that I would sometimes think was too much.

And now a serious question. My local Safeway had lamb shanks at the incredible price of only two bucks a pound. The problem? I am the only lamb lover in the house. Perhaps they would be good in a salad?

They'll freeze.

Shred the meat off the bone, I'd have it with salad.
That is true. I think that the store can see that summer is coming and there are rules on how they can sell meat. I do not think that the store can sell them. I love a slow braised lamb shank but my housemate won't even try them. She will eat lamb loin chops if smothered in a bearnaise sauce (don't tell @Wu Wei). I have found a Greek styled version cooked in a tomato sauce served over orzo that looks promising. For myself I would like to try an Indian version.

Very nice in tomato sauce, I've not done an Indian version myself but in the UK I often frequented an Indian take away that did an awesome lamb korai.
