White Privilege is a Politically Motivated Lie

Stanyon

WWMRD?
The fact that you are not directly answering the question points to affirm you are white. Which explains why you don't think it exists, you are a beneficiary and you have never seen the other side of the coin. Basically discrediting your entire position since it is based on anecdotes alone.

It doesn't sound like you watched the video in it's entirety

What do you plan to do if the guy with the white puppet avatar says he's white?
His perspective is important and relevant to the topic since his personal experiences is all he has to offer.

For who, exactly? For the record, I am not calling people I disagree with... how did he put it...

Ah yes, closet racists.
Reading the thread, I see insult & great attention to the poster's race.
As for his name calling, he too is not without sin. But a mitigating factor
is that he did so only after enduring multiple ad hominems.

I sense that once this perspective is expressed,
it won't bode well for discussing the issues.
It could have, but he chose another road by claiming those who oppose him are racist. Too bad. Perhaps another thread will have more constructive participants.

Sorry, when someone calls me a racist I tend to discredit their post at baseline, video included. I get a little punchy, you see.

I understand.
But let's cut him some slack for misbehavior, since
he was personally attacked right away (not by you).
Perhaps we can get back on track then, eh.

I don't feel that people who are white should be ashamed of being white, but whites have definitely been somewhat ''privileged'' in the western culture. If whites weren't privileged, then we wouldn't be having discussions about racism.

I agree.

There is a such a thing as white privilege?

Just like there is such a thing as black privilege?

Or Asian? Or male? Or female?

I can think of many scenarios where some distinction enables opportunities.

Whites at Google. Minorities with Affirmative Action, college entries. Housing for the poor/old. Males with executive positions. Females on dates, doors, muddy puddles.

The issue lies when we just focus on one privilege more than others and make some subjective assertion.

We have heard about white privilege for quite a while now in our media, from political pundits etc. and rightly or wrongly I assume that this false concept is also taught in some or many colleges as fact, but is it real? I am of the mind to say that no, white privilege does not exist in the United States nor have I ever come across any white people that have ever experienced any perks of simply being white. Quite honestly, I wouldn't mind nor have any quilt if having some white privilege meant:
Free gas, tires, and oil changes for life
Free Movie passes and no entry fees for museums, sporting events, and concerts
Me and my party get to the front of the queue while waiting in line at restaurants- no lines or waiting for this YT:)
A free pass on Traffic Tickets and very light sentences for any crimes I might commit
An extra deduction on my taxes JUST FOR BEING WHITE
and these are just a few examples.
Below is an interesting and entertaining video of a small group of whites and blacks explaining white privilege, what it means to them, and how it has benefited or harmed them personally.
Not funny.
