Here are two links with historical earthquake data. One is from GEM (Global Earthquake Model) which has maps showing historical magnitude 7 or above earthquake locations from 1000-1903. Historical Catalogue

The other is from Wikipedia which has a chart of significant historical earthquakes before 1901 Historical earthquakes - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Now, it appears to me from the charts and maps that earthquake frequency has increased. But I could be interpreting the data incorrectly or it very well could be that all the earthquakes of ancient history were simply not recorded and the data is not available. After comparing this subject with the scriptures more closely I have noticed that the Bible doesn’t actually refer to earthquake frequency necessarily increasing. It says...
And there will be famines, pestilences and earthquakes in various places. All these are the beginning of sorrows. Matthew 24:6-8
And there will be great earthquakes in various places...Luke 21:11

So I can say that I appreciate your persistence on this subject because it has caused me to examine the wording of the scriptures more closely and I think since the scriptures were intended for all people into the future and not just the disciples Jesus was speaking to at the time it is certainly true that because of the current day technology and news coverage we now have everyone hears of earthquakes in various places around the world.

“Now learn this parable from the fig tree: When its branch has already become tender and puts forth leaves, you know that summer is near. So you also, when you see all these things, know that it is near—at the doors! Assuredly, I say to you, this generation will by no means pass away till all these things take place. Heaven and earth will pass away, but My words will by no means pass away. Matthew 24:32-35

The fig tree Jesus refers to is Israel. It's been 66 years since Israel was once again declared a nation against all worldly odds. Jesus promised that the generation which witnessed fulfillment of this prophecy would not die off until all the things of which he spoke came to pass.

If thirty years pass and the generation that saw the rebirth of Israel dies off then I'd say you may have a valid reason to question the way many Christians and prophecy teachers have interpreted the scriptures. But with the technology in place as it is today for the possibility of global government control, the potential for worldwide nuclear devastation, the genetic altering of food crops, anti-biotic resistant bacteria on the rise, unrest in the Middle East, along with Israel's existence as a nation I think the final end time events portrayed in the book of Revelation and the return of Christ are very near.

Biblical apocalypticism is much like Nostradamus. It's so vague that it can mean almost anything. I don't put any stock into doomsday, end of the world talk.

What I asked for is not evidence that earthquakes happened in the past - we know that.

I am asking you for evidence of an INCREASE in earthquakes - because that was your claim.

You do not have the data for the NUMBER of earthquakes in any given year before the 20th century - correct?

And thanks, I'm not trying to give y8y a hard time - but to demonstrate to you that your claim can not be evidenced, and should not be made.

Not seeing how the fig tree = Israel or Israel as a nation. Seems there to just highlight in parable when and how you know something is ready/has come - not as a "sign" of it's own....let alone being a nation or specifically nation of Israel.

Get me off of this planet
I think so. Comets and NEOs have ALWAYS existed and been a threat. But now they are 'prophets of doom' on the discovery channel every day. Super volcanos could have explodes at any time, but now they are 'Armageddon no. 3 in our countdown.'

Just 200 years ago, almost every male around the world participated in one war in his life time. 2000 years ago men participated in a dozen wars in their lifetime.

I don't know if I replied to this, godamn this place is a lot to keep up with...

Ya, that's reason for the matter. I'm not accepting the will or wrath of God for the matter all the time, either.

All of these "natural" cataclysm would have been related to "God" in previous ages, of course. The warming of the planet, Solar climax, cataclysmic weather - all to God.

As far as war, I don't see God not measuring a Man in his fortitude to battle, that's just me.

World in Chaos... exposure has a tremendous amount to do with it - politics included.

Yup and Nostradamus has made more predictions than the bible, well to be fair I think he got a bunch of ideas from the bible. Revelations can look like the fall of any empire and no duh empires don't last forever.

I think the Bible itself is sets the precedent that the fig tree symbolically represents Israel. The scriptures often use the imagery of a vineyard and figs/fig tree to symbolize the nation or people of Israel as in the following scripture passages: Jeremiah 24, Hosea 9:10, Mark 11:12-14; 20-21; Matthew 24:32-33.
The fig tree was used as a picture of Israel in the Old Testament. Figs were identified with the nation of Israel by the prophets. Hosea wrote: ‘I found Israel like grapes in the wilderness, I saw your fathers as the first ripe in the fig tree in her first time" (Hosea 9:10). Jeremiah received the vision of two baskets of figs, which represented Israel: "Like these good figs, so will I acknowledge them that are carried away captive of Judah" (Jer. 24:5).

How soon was Christ’s prophecy fulfilled about the withering of the symbolic fig tree fulfilled? (Now in the morning, as they passed by, they saw the fig tree dried up from the roots. And Peter, remembering, said to Him, “Rabbi, look! The fig tree which You cursed has withered away.” Mark 11:20-21) In 70 A.D. the temple was destroyed. No longer was there a place to offer sacrifices and the opportunity to serve the Lord according to the precepts of the Law ended for Israel. Jerusalem fell into ruin, and the whole nation was expelled from their land and dispersed throughout the world.

Then speaking about the time of His return and Kingdom approaching, Christ again focuses his disciples’ attention to the fig tree. Now learn this parable from the fig tree: When its branch has already become tender and puts forth leaves, you know that summer is near.So you also, when you see all these things, know that it is near—at the doors!(Matt. 24:32, 33)

It should be noted that this parable was spoken on the same day when the unproductive fig tree was cursed. So it would be difficult to assume that when Christ told them to watch for signs taking place on that very kind of a tree, it was merely accidental. These two events constitute one whole: as a result of the rejection of the Messiah on the part of national Israel, during Christ’s first coming, God’s favor was turned away from them, as shown in the withered tree, and the softening of the branches and the bringing forth of leaves represents the return of favor to this nation prior to the time of His return to establish His Kingdom from Jerusalem, Israel.

Idk, I was highly indoctrinated. Very active in the catholic church, began studying for vocanioal at a young age etc.

Then one day a bad sermon woke me up. I asked my first question and never stopped questing.

No wonder you don't comprehend the scriptures. I was raised and indoctrinated in the Catholic Church, too and had no clue what the Bible was saying until Jesus Christ woke me up.

And in this century, in the last ten years...

(Newsroom America) -- The past ten years have been a remarkable time for great earthquakes with 18 quakes of Mw8.0 or greater since December 2004, which is a rate of more than twice that seen from 1900 to mid-2004. http://www.newsroomamerica.com/story/452431/global_surge_of_great_earthquakes_from_2004-2014.html

But as I have already stated in a previous post I am conceding the point concerning the increased frequency of earthquakes, as necessarily indicating the nearness to the end of the age and return of Christ, because the scriptures do not directly mention increased frequency, rather it says ... earthquakes in various places. I prematurely agreed with the link I posted about earthquakes increasing as an end time sign.

Gee, and how many predictions have we seen by various groups about the end of the world-- but we're still here.

My prediction about the end: we will all croak and die when our Milky War crashes into the Andromeda Galaxy in about 10 or so billion years, or maybe somewhat before that.:sorry1::facepalm::help::(:thud:

Genetically engineered food crops feed billions buddy - they are a good thing, they SAVE countless lives.

Are genetically modified foods really a good thing?

"How Genetically Engineered Corn and Soy Can Wreak Havoc on Your Health
According to the featured article2:
"The results show a positive link between GE corn and obesity. Animals fed a GE corn diet got fatter quicker and retained the weight compared to animals fed a non-GE grain diet. The studies were performed on rats, mice, pigs and salmon, achieving the same results.
... Researchers found distinct changes to the intestines of animals fed GMOs compared to those fed non-GMOs. This confirms other studies done by US researchers. Significant changes occurred in the digestive systems of the test animals' major organs including the liver, kidneys, pancreas, genitals and more."
Their findings (which were published July 11, 2012 in Norway by Forskning.no, an online news source devoted to Norwegian and international research3) showed that animals fed genetically engineered Bt corn ate more, got fatter, and were less able to digest proteins due to alterations in the micro-structure of their intestines.
They also suffered immune system alterations. The impaired ability to digest proteins may be of particular concern as this can have far-reaching implications for your health. If your body cannot digest proteins, your body will be less able to produce amino acids, which are necessary building blocks for proper cell growth and function."

Well, that's fine if you prefer your own predictions, but I prefer the to trust the biblical prophecies and words of Jesus.

You don't think it has to do with better recording and documentation? The global network of seismographs wasn't setup until the late 19th century, and before that, only larger earthquakes that affected lived areas would be documented. And with population growth, we've had an expansion of cities and living areas which would mean an increase in seriousness of every earthquake, even if they were the same number.

Actually, I do think better recording and documentation capabilities come into play. Just posted the numbers for Bumyip who has been insisting there is no data on numbers prior to the 20th century.

Yes, they are the only way to feed the world. It is sad that you are spreading propoganda about that as well.

Did you read that article? Did you notice that it was published by a political lobby group that is attacking the Grocery Manufacturers Association? It is an article by fringe radicals.

Well no it doesn't. Those figures show the number of earthquakes recorded over given periods - not the number of earthquakes. Those figures are the number of earthuakes that were reported - not the number that occured. They are just the earthqukes that occured for which we have records.

We do not have the data for the number of earthquakes, because as you know there were no seismic recording stations.

Then you'd agree that it's very possible that the frequency of earthquakes has not increased but been somewhat consistent? Which would mean there's no sign of end times after all.
