muffin8or; one of your arguments seems to be that being an expert (or at least having knowledge of) one particular field of science does not give you enough knowledge to make intelligent comments about other fields within science. QED. Wouldn't it therefore follow that being ignorant of...

Halloween - Harmless or Harmful Fun?

I said "any other neutral encyclopedia". For example this is from Dictionalry com HALLOWEEN. Halloween (also Hallowe'en) is thought to have derived from a pre-Christian festival known as Samhain (pronounced "Sah-wen") celebrated among the Celtic peoples. The various peoples whom we now refer...

Halloween - Harmless or Harmful Fun?

And you are ignoring all the posters who have told you that is incorrect. Try looking up Halloween or Samhain at Wikipedia or any other neutral encyclopedia.

Halloween - Harmless or Harmful Fun?

Right. And removing men's foreskins (I believe there is another text in which it states that David decorated the temple with them) is less barbaric than what you have accused Pagans of, how exactly? Actually I don't want to go too far down this line of argument. I am just making the point...

Halloween - Harmless or Harmful Fun?

1 Samuel 18:27 David and his men went out and killed two hundred Philistines. He brought their foreskins and presented the full number to the king so that he might become the king's son-in-law. Salam Witch Trials (From Wikipedia) The best-known trials were conducted by the Court of Oyer and...

Halloween - Harmless or Harmful Fun?

Really, which ones? Some Pagans did bad stuff in the past???? Sheesh... I'd better give up Paganism instantly then... Well at least those cuddly Christians have never done anything bad wrong or violent in their short history.

    Views of witchcraft

muffina8or you do science a dis-service by treating it like a religion and by claiming to speak from a scientific perspective when in fact every word you write betrays your ignorance of both science and witchcraft. Science and the scientific method cannot explain everything. There are many true...

    Views of witchcraft

This from a person who is so intellectual that s/he thinks the use of a facepalm smilie negates further argumnet or explanation! Draka has never said that criticism of of witchcraft is nonsense. But calling something rubbish and the use of a facepalm does not constitute serious "criticism" or...

    Origins of Us

I wouldn't mind a little more science and a little less personality. On the other hand I am a fan of both Alice and Brian. I hope that their enthusiasm will be infectious (which is of course why they are employed). I could happily put up with even more of their quirks if it meant less Eastenders...

Is "Devil Worship" another Abrahamic faith?

That's where the confusion comes from. I think it may be true that early Christians and some sectors of Judaism and Islam attributed and associated elements of their Satan with pre existing figures from other religions. But the evil nature of the Christian Satan was not the key feature of most...

Is "Devil Worship" another Abrahamic faith?

I think I'd have to agree with that. You can call it Abrahamic only in the sense that Christianity is one of the three Abrahamic religions. But it seems to me the Satan(ism) being discussed in this thread is pretty exclusively a product of Christian theology.

    That's what I meant.

Is "Devil Worship" another Abrahamic faith?

My mind is a bit boggled by the confusion of some of the ideas expressed in this thread! To the best of my knowledge Judasim, Christianity and Islam are commonly referred to as the Abrahamic faiths. Thus any concepts that originate within those faiths must belong to those faiths to some degree...

Is "Devil Worship" another Abrahamic faith?

But it does relate to an entity that only exists in the Abrahamic faiths.

    Irish Presidential Election

According to an RTE poll, Martin McGuinness stands a chance. I am not sure if that's true but it would be interesting.
