I think you are in nebulous territory, here.
You are assuming that humans are not merely physical, thus it is incumbent upon you to demonstrate that. Also, based on your previous comments, you will have to demonstrate that non-human animals don't have this 'thing' unique to our species.
You...
A strong statement there, Midnight Pete. If you think we are not animals, how do you personally biologically categorise humans in Nature (with supporting evidence, if you have it)?
Now, I see what you are saying here, but I would rather adopt a more optimistic view that it is possible. Waiting until an as-yet unverified afterlife before we can achieve unity isn't an option if we are to survive in this life.
Can there be a dogma for a lack of belief in gods? Do we all have a dogma regarding our lack of belief in invisible unicorns too?
Atheism can present an argument or a justification for lack of theistic belief, but there are no rules or prescriptions regarding how atheists should live their...
True, but, given the tenets of many religions (preaching love, tolerance etc), shouldn't the tribalism be overcome? We can rise above our basic human condition. Don't all / most religions have a duty to promote tolerance and cohesion?
Religion is based on faith, yes, but we would still have the choice whether to follow that god or not. We would all be believers, but not necessarily all followers. And it's followers that gods want.
So what would be the view of christians towards the ideas of their faith being a cult in its early days - a rebellious, charismatic leader with views outwith the mainstream and banding together a small group of dedicated followers. Would that qualify as a cult by today's standards?
(not...
"Every moving thing"?
"Creeping things"?
"Beasts"?
Can't we narrow it down a bit?
(I'm assuming you are being sarcastic in listing these categories for the purposes of a discussion on 'kinds')
Why is it clearly a sin? Because it's in the bible? What reason does god give for homosexuality being a sin?
People who regard homosexuality as a 'sin' or 'wrong' because it's written in an ancient text aren't thinking for themselves. Question your god as to why it is wrong and get back to us...
Venatoris
I found this ( abit basic, but it's a starting point):
"Eating animal fats and proteins has been shown in studies to raise a person´s risk of developing cancer, diabetes, rheumatoid arthritis, hypertension, heart disease, and a number of other illnesses and conditions. The fat and...
I gave up all meat in one move. I felt that if I eased myself into it, the transition period could go on and on and on... ("I'll do it tomorrow...")
Making an absolute break was difficult (and I still miss bacon and fish), but it was worth the effort. I'm moving towards veganism now, but that's...
Good point. There is no 'controversy' as far as ToE is concerned. The notion of a controversy is promoted by creationists / ID proponents in order to give the (false) impression that biologists are in fierce debate over evolution. This so-called division gives them an entry point through which...
Yes, there is culture to consider. I wouldn't impose my vegetarianism on Inuit, for example. Their diet is based on fish and seal for obvious reasons. Vegetarianism in Europe (and other 'developed' nations) is usually different. Here, it is more of a protest against the practice of intensive...
