    No one here is defending the Islamists, nor is anyone denying there is a literacy problem, especially when it comes to reading the Qur'an... which always leads me to ask why "God's literal word" was written in such a difficult, geographically-specific language. One can ask such questions...

    IMO Hadith takes away all free thought. Perhaps God didn't want to be so specific about each and every thing, but leave some decisions up to his followers. I'm not sure God wanted every minor detail of our daily routine to be enforced some several hundred years later.
