Infant baptism was an idea promoted and defended by John Calvin, I think. I found several sources to verify this. One source states:
The most significant controversy to centre upon the sacrament of baptism has arguably been the debate over whether it is legitimate to baptize infants or...
But is that what Calvinists believe? Calvin said we are saved through faith alone, and Atpollard explained that he meant we are saved through faith and repentance, but through nothing else.
Hey, I like Atpollard. I'd consider him a friend if he'd have me. He has been nothing but friendly to me...

Through faith in only who Jesus is and what he did for us?
Or through faith in what Jesus commanded us to do for him? Or both? I believe most Calvinists would say the former, not the latter nor both. (I'm not saying they are against obedience to Christ--far from it! But having been a...
KatieMyGirl:
And you might say, "What does it matter since we both believe we should be baptized?"
I guess what I think the difference that matters between the two of you comes down to is this: You believe belief and obedience is what saves you and me. Calvinists believe belief only saves you...
I find it intriguing we have devoted several days and created several pages of this discussion, yet we still are considering the full truth of Ephesians 2:8, which is quoted in the first post. There is still more truth to be learned from these seven words!
By grace you are saved, through...

Sorry for the delay in responding. Relatives visiting from out of town. :)
At the Evangelical Presbyterian church where I was once a member, there was a moto on the door: "In essentials, unity. In nonessentials, liberty. In all things, charity." It seems that the 5% where you disagree...
In Plato's Meno and elsewhere, Socrates proposes the idea that truth is not taught, it is remembered. Hence his use of the Socratic Method to get people to recollect the truth.
I don't recall anyone else since the Father of Philosophy teaching this. I suppose he was failing to recall the truth...
I believe, "honest study looking at all related scriptures," describes you. It evidently describes Atpollard and Disciple, too. Yet I think you agree they don't agree with you--not on everything.
Yes, I'm a philosopher. So I'm not into partisan religion.

I had a neighbor who was in a JW...
Yes, but as we have discussed, here, the words can be interpreted different and contradictory ways. So all we need are not in the words on the page. If they were, no one would disagree about what they mean!
But wait. If you think about it, every one of these topics all have one topic in common: Does God reveal the truth to us fully? And the second topic is like it: How does God reveal the truth to us?
Finding the answer to those questions is a prerequisite to answering the others, I think.
Did you come up with a topic? I have a few favorites that I like to use on discussion forums like this. We have just discussed two of them:
Are we saved through faith alone? (Ephesians 2)
Is the bread and wine really Jesus' flesh and blood? (John 6)
Here are some others:
Should we forgive...
Oh, no problem! Thanks for thinking it through as long as you did. You're a real virtual friend! (Is that literal or figurative?) ;)
May God richly bless. :)
"Christ was carried in his own hands when, referring to his own body, he said, ‘This is my body’ [Matt. 26:26]. For he carried that body in his hands." (Exp. of the Psalms 33:1:10)
Was Augustine contradicting himself in his exposition of the two Psalms? At first glance it seems so, but maybe...
Hmm. The link if you want to type it into your web browser is:

I think you are doing just fine. :)
I also think what you are describing is different from what Augustine described. He said Jesus held his own body in his hands when he blessed it and gave...
Yes, thanks. So you believe something like what Lutherans believe, which I think is called Consubstantiation? The bread and fruit if the vine does not become Jesus, but Jesus inhabits or indwells or is in the bread and fruit of the vine? Or do you have a different belief? Some beliefs compared...
