Actually, I reckon that the nation needs to acquire a great big pot of cash for whatever proposals it chooses, and much of this could come from a proper licensing system with sensible fees.

All fees are just guesses........
Criminal record review............ $30
Stability review........................ $30
Home Crime prevention survey............ $50
Home crime prevention inspection......... $50
Gun Safety course....................... $300
Test & Qualification....................... $50
Resit fees.......................................$50
Licence for five years (?)................$50

etc........... They need to find enough to install decent perimeter security and quality access control x 50 thousand schools, or whatever that number was.

Every little bit helps.... :D
You sure seem dedicated to charging fees.
Is that a British tradition?

Of course it's dangerous, but I maintain that it's less dangerous than the status quo.
In the context of school shootings, school staff armed with pepper spray & stun guns
could be useful, but less so than guns, which have better range & capacity.
Facility design can enhance this.
I understand the issues with range but if something is defensive it shouldn’t be lethal.

So, if a teacher observes that one of his/her students have obviously been physically abused outside of class, that teacher should simply "teach" and take no further action?
You must have missed the part i mentioned about sociological issues.

I favor lethal self defense as a last resort.
Just tossing out ideas, suppose.....
Staff had cameras to monitor all hallways.
Halls could be flooded with pepper spray, incapacitating anyone there.
Halls could be flooded with intense flashing light to make a shooter less capable.
Such measures would take time & money, but could be a useful supplement to armed staff, allowing them to avoid using guns.
More secure doors could allow a class to take cover until danger passes.

Btw, remotely actuated pepper spray dispensers are already on the market.

So where do you draw the line on how protective a teacher is supposed to be when they have sole custody of your children for most of the day?
Aye, there's the issue....
We should expect schools to take reasonable safety precautions.
But they....
- Advertise that they're unarmed.
- Have facilities typically with no entry control.
- Have no means of defense.
- Require that kids be there.

Teachers have a hard enough time just stopping the bullies.

I say do what Israel does. Have armed guard patrols.

Let teachers teach and guards guard.

I don't understand the reasoning to force different polar professions on individuals. Sounds like a big hack to a problem.

Better yet, do what successful countries like Japan, South Korean and Australia has done to stop school shootings.

So do you folks.
It's a great idea to make a person pay for a service if they want it and can afford it.
And so a CR check, stability review, security survey, security safe and intruder deterrents, insurance, tri-annual visit, etc should be payed for by the gun holder.... yeah.

And don't sob into your pillow tonite over all this Revolting, 'cos we all know that you're a ridiculously rich Capitalist. :p

Clearly, we should have an immigration ban on Limeys.
Don't want them infiltrating government.
It's bad enuf that they take so many acting roles in
The Walking Dead.
