Avi's Spiritual and Religious Journey - Part 2

Very good starting point, Paar. How would you deal with these issues ? I see 3 starting points:

1)Intelligece.
2)Communications.
3)Education.

Please elaborate on these and provide others, if needed.

Actually, I see a 4th. Legislative and judicial reform. How does this apply ?

These are good points; go on elaborating the points. You are good at it. Quran does not oppose them rather Quran supports them.

Does Torah also support them? Please

Regards

Lets continue this discussion.

Lets speculate that there were Jews living in Gaza ? Would this change the situation ? Of course this would not change things significantly, because Israel is trying to attack military targets, not civilian targets anyway.

Everyone agree ?

Paar, sorry, I cannot do all your heavy lifting for you. You are going to have to explain these ideas to me...I want to make sure you have been paying attention to the things I have been teaching you. ;)

We don't discuss here politics.
This is religious Education Forum.

Why did Avi had to live for his spiritual and religious journey in Israel specifically?

Avi could live in any country for that purpose.

I am once again embarrassed that any Jew would post such an arrogant, exclusionary, and elitist post, as "Who is a Jew".

Clearly, anyone who wishes to be a Jew should be welcomed into the religion.

Does the Jew have to receive conversion from a certified Rabbi ? Who certifies the Rabbi ? Do Humanist Rabbi's account ? Renewal Rabbi's ? Reconstructionist ? Reform ? Messianic Rabbi ?

Why would anyone want to place such divisive conditions in a Sticky ? It shows a lack of common sense by a small group of extremists who control the DIR.

Please let me know if you agree that this elitist behavior should not be tolerated in the DIR and we can create a referendum to that affect.

I watched the video:

And I would say this Rabbi is quite brilliant. He is inclusionary, and uses Halachic arguments to bring his point home. I am on-board.

Does everyone agree with Rabbi Asher Meza ?

i have to say that I saw that post early this morning and thought the same thoughts. I was surprised a moderator would post such a divisive thread.

Thank you for stepping forward, and sharing your thoughts, Buttercup. I will continue to post my views about issues related to reform and liberal religious thought. I hope you will speak out as well.

where is the thread "who isn't a Jew", now that would be interesting.

Anyways, different opinions abound about that, everything from what in essence is 'my rabbi has to say your a Jew", If you practice my brand of Judaism", I mean, it's just opinions.

Anywho, that is an "interesting" thread.

Not sure how much help I'll be, I'm generally more comfortable when fewer things are tightly defined. :p

Judaism is supposed to be a lifelong commitment, and isn't meant for everyone at that. And that's not a bad thing either.

Does the Jew have to receive conversion from a certified Rabbi ? Who certifies the Rabbi ? Do Humanist Rabbi's account ? Renewal Rabbi's ? Reconstructionist ? Reform ? Messianic Rabbi ?
It's up to G-d and the Jewish community IMHO.

Why would anyone want to place such divisive conditions in a Sticky ? It shows a lack of common sense by a small group of extremists who control the DIR.
To the contrary, it's there b/c it is such a commonly asked question that there might as well be a sticky as to avoid a bajillion threads asking that essential question. All denoms are entitled to have their views in the sticky (though I may personally disagree with some).

Please let me know if you agree that this elitist behavior should not be tolerated in the DIR and we can create a referendum to that affect.
When has it been elitist to clarify a commonly asked question?

No worries, we are all entitled to our opinions, it is a free country. Thanks for participating. :)

Judaism isn't meant for everyone...but who decides...you ? Levite ? CMike ? No. The individual must decide for herself/himself. Any other approach is exclusionary and elitist. The fact that this question is being proposed as a Sticky shows a lack of sensitivity to individual rights.

Exactly. The members of the DIR want to exclude anyone with new ideas. It is an elitist situation.

Promoting assimilation into the culture of the country of residence is hardly new.

And there is a Liberal DIR. The problem is that your ideas are radical by even Liberal Judaism.

Personally what disgusts me the most is how you make yourself into this poor persecuted fellow who is hunted out of the village.
