City passes proposal to remove Trump's star from Hollywood Walk of Fame

It's an industry recognition that gets much more attention than it deserves.

The star gives Trump undeserved attention/recognition/importance/fame via the prestige of Hollywood. It's somewhat akin to what a Jew who suffered the holocaust might do to a statue of Hitler or monument in the form of a swastika, were they publicly on display. It's not right or wrong. It is what it is.

Absurdity finds new meaning. Good to know. Remind me to hide anything valuable, sentimental or otherwise, when you come for dinner.:rolleyes::D

How absurd is the artificial adulation of Kim June Un by his people, or continuing to maintain a star of recognition in light of Trump's recent behavior?

In spite of their achievements, we strip those who've committed offensive acts, like Bill Cosby, Bill O'Reilly, Harvey Weinstein, Andrew Kreisberg, Ben Affleck, Kevin Spacey, etc. Why should Trump be treated any differently?

A List of Powerful People in Entertainment Who Have Been Accused of Sexual Harassment or Assault This Year
Cosby and Spacey both still have their stars displayed. Affleck's apology was resolute and his offense (unlike theirs) wasn't rape or attempted rape, so I wouldn't lump him in the same category, but he also does. The rest never had stars.

That's basically my only issue with the city council's action, that they're applying a double standard, that they're treating Trump like he's not fit to be on the hallowed sacred ground of Tinseltown. It comes off just a bit pompous and bloviating. I wouldn't care at all if instead they took a broader stand against giving positive recognition to terrible people, whether Trump or people they still count among them who behave just like Trump. To me, it's a separate moral question from the vandalism of public property, which I see as wrong on the face of it.

Soooo...are you saying we should overthrow the Trump government with violence if necessary?

We overthrew Hitler with violence. But I am not saying we should or shouldn't do anything like this. I'm just looking at it from the POV of physics. Ball A strikes Ball B and C is the result. I'm just noting why pick axe boy did what he did considering the circumstances. When a Palestinian man has had his home bulldozed and his family murdered, what life has he left to live? Turning to suicide bombing may be what he considers the only choice left. Ordinary people who would not commit these kinds of acts, may resort to them when the conditions are such that they feel completely powerless and/or oppressed. I'm thinking of the Revolutionary War.

It's a very separate moral question from the vandalism of public property, which I see as wrong on the face of it.

When I said 'strip', I wasn't referring to Walk of Fame stars, but to their public notoriety and position.

But none of them are in the powerful position of President, who is currently impacting the lives of millions of people around the world.

Reluctantly I have to agree. If I pissed on his "star" I would become just like him. This I refuse to do even for the moment it felt good doing so.

Pick Axe Boy destroyed a symbol of something that no longer represents reality, but instead perpetuates adulation of someone whose acts are destructive of human rights.

But what is that good feeling all about in that supreme moment of glory? That is the question.

Folks, if they try to remove his “star” he will make a Presidential proclamation that his “star” is an American monument and anyone who tries to remove it is in violation of his law and will arrested.

Now I am off to other places

Would you be OK with conservatives destroying stars for liberals?

It's not a conservative or liberal issue. It's about an act of vandalism against a symbol of recognition for a man who is the most powerful man in the world, whose acts in that capacity are in violation of human rights.

Only someone who is poor, dirty and stupid would do something like this.

Is burning a young Vietnamese girl with napalm an act committed by people who are poor, dirty, and stupid?

And is burning the American flag in protest of the Vietnam War worse than that?

That is an unfortunate and dangerous problem.

Donald tRump has never done anything honestly and with integrity to earn the Star.

Maybe we should leave the Star in place in recognition of his reaching out and grabbing women's 'pu**ies', a rare and highly developed talent. It's all in the wrist, you know.:p

I think we had that revolution in 2016. Guess what. You lost.I not sure you really want to have another revolution anytime soon.
