Dark side of athiest culture

Well, I don't think it is a valid point.

Well, any kind of evidence for god would be interesting. If the evidence is not independent of human psychology, does it count?

Also, we use instruments to detect things we can't directly sense. In my lab, it's nuclear radiation.

What do I wrap around what to detect a god effect?

It might be easier to 'square' a total lack of morality with atheism...

Nope. When one feels personally responsible for the outcome of one's decisions, it is rather more challenging than abdicating one's ethical responsibilities to an authority figure, real or imaginary. ISIS believe God approves of their behaviour. Hamas too. A goodly proportion of the US army, who drop bombs on wedding parties in Pakistan without remorse. The IDF is slaughtering civilians to hold onto a chunk of real estate they think God gave them. Hitler was a Christian and Nazi regalia was emblazoned with the slogan "God is with us". The KKK was and is comprised of Christians. Christians in Africa are torturing and killing "witches". The Bible even endorses that behaviour unambiguously. In fact, with only a couple of exceptions (Stalin, Pol Pot, Kim Jung Un, etc), every awful thing in human history I can think of was done by people who believed god was watching - and cheering them along.

Would you accept humanism? I think atheists tend to be human, to feel sympathy towards others and that tends to make them humanist, and everyone has culture including people who aren't humanist. Culture is wisdom you get from other people, habits, also some traits. I'm not talking about feathers and dances when I'm talking about atheist culture. Maybe you would accept 'Secular culture'?

I can understand that if church is a big part of your life, you might get the impression those who don't have that have a void in there lives where church should be. That's exactly how I feel about people who don't play a musical instrument. :D

Atheist culture is whatever the atheist in question gets up to in their spare time. And that could be anything under the sun, except going to church on Sundays in most cases.

I thought this thread was going to expose our secret atheist blood rituals and pacts with ancient demons.

Everyone go about your business.

I can totally believe this. I KNEW I missed out!

There are many an atheist in UU churches. Just sayin'. :D It's the social interaction and communal spirit that brings them there, for the most part. That and to do good deeds in their communities.

Sure, I did say "most cases". I spend my Sunday mornings lounging around in bed reading or watching Netflix and getting in some extra sleep. I have been to a UU church though. My Celtic band played for a winter solstice ritual. It was lovely. :)

..if church is a big part of your life, you might get the impression those who don't have that have a void in there lives where church should be..

Not all Christians go to church (Jesus said it's fine to stay home, Matt 6:6), especially if churches are full of crackpots like most are.
"Bad company corrupts good character" (1 Cor 15:33)

Some of my churchgoing mates used to introduce me to various churches years ago, but I soon got a reputation for walking out in disgust pretty quick.
That always amused my pals and they used to secretly place bets among themselves how long i'd last (5 mins, 10 mins, 15 mins etc), then they'd rofl when i got up without a word to anybody and walked out..:)
At a couple of churches i actually walked out before the service had even begun!
For example they took me to an Alpha Course once but didn't like what i saw, and walked straight back out. One of the AC tutors actually ran after me to try to persuade me to go back, it was like an 'Escape from Colditz' episode, but I managed to give him the slip down a side street and made a home run..:)

Christians, Muslims, Jews and Hindus all believe somebody is watching. Somebody sees everything. There is a kind of shock buffer to keep us behaving as we live out our younger years.

If you need someone constantly looking over your shoulder and the threat of eternal torment to be a good person then what does that say about you and your culture?

Yes, there is a dark side to atheist culture, and it may be the lack of culture. It may be that people have not figured out a way to teach young people to be moral outside of religion. Many young atheists of my acquaintance have no scruples about lying, cheating, stealing and stabbing coworkers in the back, but Christians, Muslims, Jews and Hindus all believe somebody is watching. Somebody sees everything. There is a kind of shock buffer to keep us behaving as we live out our younger years. As I've mentioned before I already know of two people who converted to evangelical Christianity that grew up secular, and I mean they converted knowing full well that they were joining a cult more or less. They joined because to them there was something wrong with secular culture. They chose to believe and to pass on their beliefs.

I hope you are kidding

Also if religion was such an effective way to promote morality why is it that the countries with the lowest crime rates tend to be highly secular with a high degree of Atheism? And then inversely why is it that the most religious of countries tend to suffer from more crime?

I don't link religion to crime as a cause but it does deflate your case that morality is taught via the religious mediums rather than secular ones. I also can't help but feel you are either lying or biased about your atheists friends. Or your friend's could be bad parents and it has nothing to do with their atheism. Without knowing the situation I can't be sure.

..most religious of countries tend to suffer from more crime?..

That's a very broad brush statistic mate, maybe you could break it down into what percentage of convicts are Christians, and what percentage are atheists and nonchristians?..;)

Actually, Christianity is a strong force among the jailbirds here in Brazil. It is said that they pray for Jesus to deflect bullets away from them.

You mean it's not the concept of what you assert to be the "true" religion?

Truthful religion has always remained the same since inception it was revealed by the One-True-God; when it got corrupted at hands of the narrators/scribes/clergy, it was revealed again on a perfect man chosen by G-d from among the humans.
