Dog Eating

JDMS

Academic Workhorse
In my opinion and experience, it's practically impossible to argue that eating certain animals is ethical while eating other animals is unethical. Intelligence? Forget it... its nearly impossible to quantify and valuing animals by intelligence is a dangerous road. Environmental impact? Then we should all be eating insects. Disease? Good luck. Lots of animals transfer diseases to humans like crazy.

Either eating animals is ethical or its not. I've never heard an argument that convinced me that any animal deserves to be eaten more than another.

Well they like it I suppose! They're omnivores, not herbivores. :)
Also they're less efficient at foraging than pigs, whose snouts and forest-hardy bodies are more suited for it. Dogs are more likely to take high nutrient low effort vegetation like berries or peas.

I see dogs as loyal companions thus I'm not keen on the notion of eating them, especially when the conditions and process are cruel. However I do recognize that this is more due to cultural perspective than objective logic.

But cats on the other hand, "bon appetit."

Twilight, not bright nor dark, good nor bad.
As heartbreaking as it is for me, I would be a hypocrite boycotting or getting proactive about others eating dogs. I occasionally dine on meat myself. Mostly chicken, beef, pork...yanno... typical American cuisine. It is heartbreaking, for me. There are likely others who experience similar emotions when I eat a cow or pig.
At least most people kill their prey before butchering them.

China keeps them alive while boiling and skinning them and throwing the still living and severely traumatized animal on a table in a state of absolute living hell.

I sort of meant the latter, on the assumption of not currently being an eater of dog meat.
Ok. I'm not an eater of any meat but I genuinely don't think causing dogs to suffer is worse than the factory farming here, there and everywhere.

Why would you say it is fair to boycott Vietnam, for example, when the UK or Australia, say, have massive cruelty industries?

I've read that they believe the suffering enhances the flavor. If true, that's a rather sick and sadistic culture.
