Faith Is A Choice

BSM1

What? Me worry?
Hebrews 11:1 defines it much better than I ever could

But in my mind, it means to take Jesus at His Word, and follow it up with doing what He says to do.

Hebrews 11 talks about the great heroes of faith. Each of them seems to believe what God says, and then do what He says to do.

Example: God tells Noah to build an ark. Noah believes God. He builds the ark.

God tells Joshua to march around Jericho seven times. Joshua believes God and does what God says to do.

How do you define faith?

Do you think Noah would have chosen Russell Crowe to play him in the movie. (Sorry, I couldn't let it go.)

To each their own, but I still don't understand such statement. What harm would be to be unsure & believe?
Remember that if you keep doors close no one can either enter or leave - until you change your lenses your view won't change, don't expect someone else to do it for you because they won't.

Raahim, it is because then if I where to be unsure and believe then that still leaves me with deciding which religion to believe.

All of them could be real.

Faith is something we choose to have.

Faith is taking Jesus at His word, and obeying what He says.

We get faith by hearing God's Word.

Keeping my replies short. My posts now are to learn. No more debating. Debates will be cut short.

Scripture says "Faith is hope (some translations trust or confidence) in things unseen" to be true.

If you Know god is true/fact, why do you need hope?

Faith/trust is a choice, yes. I agree. You can choose to put your hope in something. If you know that something exist, you have no choice. Its a fact.

There is no hope or trust in things unseen. Its a fact.

My point: Why do you hope for something unseen (biblical) when you know it is true/fact?

.

Scripture says "things hoped for" that are unseen.

Yes, you can hope; but, why? You know. Its not a choice once you know. It becomes a fact.

Reflective question.

Why is the unseen more important than the seen?

The unseen requires faith. The seen does not.

Our faith is continually growing. We can leave it at anytime. The choice is ours. Granted, the deeper our faith, the less likely we would walk away.

As God gave the Seven Laws, do not deny God & be moral - that's all you need to deserve rewards from Him, it really isn't that tough in essence - religion will help you to be a better person surely.

You are again making circular logic Raahim.

I need to believe in god to believe in the seven laws to believe in god.

"Taylor Seraphim, post: 4722767, member: 59147"]Is your faith different than a Muslim's?
Could you address my last post to you?

I asked you if faith was a choice.

I also responded to you:

I have a friend who used to say the same things as you. His wife, however was a believer. She never pushed him. She just went about living her life the way she thought God wanted her to live. One day, he simply made a choice. He decided he was going to get to know who this God was that his wife so strongly believed in. Today, roughly 40 years later, he is one of the best christian men I know.

It's all about choice.

It's opening your heart and giving the Lord a little room to move in. It's giving Him the chance to show you He is there.

That was the answer to your "God wants me to guess which religion is true" - you don't need any religion.

Let me correct myself, I need to believe in your god in order to believe in those laws which tells me that your god is the real one.

So even if we where to assume that there was some form of god, there is still not a way to tell which one it is.

You can't believe in any other god, there is no God but God.

No that is not in anyway true.

Because I do not accept your god, I am responsible for my own actions, I do not get to believe that I will meet my loved ones after I die, I do not get to believe that there is ANYTHING after I die.

Where do you get this notion that being an atheist makes it easier on you?

@katiemygirl Can you now please address this post?

Katie, my dear, methinks you have a somewhat vague idea of what constitutes faith, or the definition thereof. Faith, how you see it, is actually the secondary definition of the term. The primary definition of “faith” is: complete trust or confidence in someone or something.

The faith in which you refer to is derived from the secondary definition found within the Oxford dictionary.

The thing is, I agree faith is inherent in the human race. After all, throughout our daily routines we operate constantly on faith, often without even realizing it. Faith in the supernatural, however, is a different animal altogether. While faith may be inherent within us, it takes a lifetime of religious indoctrination and an exceedingly unhealthy suspension of perspicacity in order to translate that faith into one of a dogmatic adherence to fables, myths and fairy tales written by unknown men from cultures far removed from ours by both a immense distance in time and insurmountable difference in culture.

Now, with that in mind, some, many folks have redirected their faith into an organized religion of some sorts, as you have done with regard to Christianity. In short Katie, your faith is natural. Your faith in God and Jesus, however, is both part choice, part indoctrination. No word (if any word even exists) from God (if such an entity even exists) is necessary.

Your post had little meaning to me.

Of course belief without evidence, faith, will grow if you keep doing it.

But you are not giving me a good reason why I should have faith at all, let alone faith in your god.
It's not up to me to give you faith. It's not up to me to give you reasons to believe in God.

It's your choice to have it or not have it.
