Far Right - German Election

You can't copy paste that unto today.

To a large extent I agree, but it's a mistake to assume all of Germany is uniform. The eastern region was overwhelmingly Protestant and the south overwhelmingly Catholic back then. Even though I'm sure the numbers have at least somewhat changed, I think it might be mistaken to assume they're the same, such as the differences we see here in the U.S. between north and south. Hitler avoided going to Bavaria in the latter part of the war because he was generally unwelcome there and feared for his life.

Did the people in Germany have any clue that the VW plant closings were going to start soon?

There's little about rightists that's understandable.
That's for damn sure.
I need to explain you.
In Germany the right-wing is incredibly divided.
They are not a unified force.
So the moderate Christian Democrats prefer to make a coalition with socialists and with leftists in general ....rather than being allied to AfD, which is a party considered the absolute Evil.

Just because they are a modern party with new ideas unlike the dusty CDU.
And they transferred this model to the European Parliament by making a coalition between Popular Party and Socialists.

Oh look an American.
The guys who literally banned the Nazi Party in Germany.

Whether you like it or not the AfD is a fascist party.

Or the part where the AfD held a meeting in November 2023 on what to do after taking power, main topic: Who get's to stay, obviously along ethnic lines and family descend, not citizenship.

Also rescinding the right to vote along ethnic lines was discussed.

Very normal.
Nothing to worry about!

If only one could read the article.
Snark?

That makes sense in principle. It is just not clear to me what constitutes 'anti-democratic extremists'.
Everybody who says or acts like they want to abolish democracy or are against important sections of the constitution. The only parties being banned after the formation of the FRG were the SRP, a fascist party in the footsteps of the NSDAP in 1952 and the KPD (Communist Party of Germany) in 1956.
Would Trump's Republican party be monitored/banned there, do you think?
Definitely monitored, probably banned.

I mean lol they are vastly different to back then.

Map from the 1890s, Orange Protestant majority, Green/Blue Catholic majority.

Map from 2022, Green neither Catholic or Protestant is the total majority, Yellow Catholic majority, Purple Protestant majority.

The majority of Germans are neither Catholic nor Protestant.

Well no the news came this week.

Zakharova says that Russia wants to recover the natural gas supply to Germany...
but it's Germany who doesn't want that. Probably because Germany has an American gun pointed at her back.

No wonder AFD wins.

I would suggest that the Germans know of the potential threat of fascism under Putin heal.

I would remind you that in Germany there is a Constitutional Court and unelected people cannot govern, only because they are "self-proclaimed democratic parties" :)

No, because Germany wants to be free of reliance on a country run by a crazy dictator.
