Then why are you posting here?

Sorry, but other Christians have as much right to post here as you do - even if you don't consider them Christians.

I created this post with an interest to discuss with others why they left historic Christianity. Of course anyone can post, but I am responding with my original intent of creating this thread. Katzpur knows very well that we do not share the same Christian Faith. I don't mind if Mormons consider that I am an apostate Christian because that is the Mormon Faith. There are Mormons who were once Christians (historic definition) and left Christianity for Mormonism. Why is that so offensive, especially since the LDS Faith considers Christianity to be apostate?

The historic churches are the Eastern Orthodox, the Oriental Orthodox, the Nestorian, and the Roman Catholic. Why don't you explain why you left historic Christianity?

Oops, left out Coptic and Gnostic, and the original Church of Jerusalem founded by James.:D

The Copts are Oriental Orthodox, and while the gnostics have had their hand in all along, there's not really any historic gnostic church. The Jesus community under James was (in my view) a Jewish group, not a Christian group.

It only SEEMS that way.

The gnostic is the REAL historic church...
forced underground from the very beginning...
persecuted as jesus said his church/people would be. ;) :D
(by all the non and not-really christians):p

If they've been underground all this time, they're not really historic, are they? They're just old. :D

I never experienced a relationship with God and once I realized that every other Christian I knew had experienced this, I decided that I had no reason to believe.

This thread is for those who were once a professing Christian and have left the Christian Faith. Let's discuss what you have discovered.
Alrighty then.

I'm open to discuss and debate anything that seems to be your reason for leaving Christianity.
This should be interesting.

-The concept of "God-given" free will vs. "God's" Divine Plan.
So, "God" gave us free will.
But "God" also has a Divine Plan. He knows everything we're going to do before we do it. Every choice, every thought. He has a plan for each and every one of us. So he's planned out all our lives. Where does the free will figure in?
I've heard the argument that "we have a choice to follow his plan or not." Really now? So we have the ability to defy "God?" Doesn't sound "almighty" to me.
"We can choose to accept or reject "God," and those who reject him are sent to hell." Well, he has our live planned out for us, right? So he planned for us not to accept him? So he planned for us to go to hell? Don't I feel special.
Also, how is this free will? "Love me, or you'll burn in hell for all eternity. Your choice."

-Rejection of homosexuals and view of them as abominations when "God" created us all and we are all his children. Is that loving in the eyes of "God?"

-Why is it impossible for Jesus to have had siblings?
In the words of Chris Rock from "Dogma" (not verbatim): Believing Christ was born of a virgin, that's a leap of faith. But to believe that a married couple never got down, that's just plain gullibility.

Those are just off the top of my head.

I am also curious in what you have replaced the Christian Faith with, whatever you're new religion or world view has become.
I'm a mix of a lot of different things.
A bit of Buddhism, mixed with paganism and animism, and a bit agnostic. Hard to fully describe.

LOL, that's pretty good. I was never raised Roman Catholic or Eastern Orthodox. Therefore, how can I leave something that I never belonged to? Roman Catholic theology considers Protestants to be their separated brethren and consider us part of the Catholic Church even though we protest their way of salvation. I do believe there are Christians who are converted and united to Christ from all of Christendom, including those who belong to Roman Catholic communities, Eastern Orthodox communities, and Protestant communities. I also believe that there are many who are unconverted in all of those Christian communities.

I think Scripture teaches us that humanity is divided simply into two group. We are either united to Adam or to Christ. All the rest is religion created in the minds of men. However, theological distinctives are very important.

You've obviously never heard of the 2x2's who have a ministry set up exactly like is explained in the bible about Jesus's ministry.

For me, growing away from Christianity was a slow process that started when I was a kid. I was raised Roman-Catholic by my parents and I never really had a choice in that matter. As I got older, I decided to research many of the world's religions to find the one that made me feel whole. I now follow the teachings of Wicca and feel the loving warmth of the Mother goddess & Father god an shining down upon me. --> Wicca is duo-theistic.
