God may punish but eternity in hell?

Does the bible really teach that the non-christian will be tortured forever in an eternal fiery hell? Most Christian think so. But does the bible scriptures really support that doctrine. The answer is No.

It depends on the Christian you ask. Either way you're still dealing with a punishment levied for thoughtcrime. I find that idea totally repugnant.

True, that does happen. But sometimes you can see God's justice or/and human justice befalls them. And sometimes we cannot see it and we think that they are getting away with it. But i think that their conscience will know and will bother them. Their bodies will secret bad hormones and they'll get hypertension, heart disease and such (imo).

some people are born with the absence of empathy or a born with a lesser degree of it. they cannot relate due to the way they are wired.

And where did they (Christians who believe that there is an eternal fiery hell) get that idea?
Was if from their Pastor?
Was it from their reading of the bible?
Was it from general consensus?

If the bible scriptures doesn't really support the doctrine of an eternal fiery hell, then aren't those Christians who espouse that doctrine badly mistaken?

Not only are they badly mistaken, but they also spread false doctrines.
I would that those Christians study the bible carefully and critically to really determine what it actually teaches.

I too find that idea of torturing a poor soul forever in an eternal fiery hell, totally repugnant. It is NOT what the bible really teaches. Those Christians are badly mistaken.

The americanchristiansociety (com) says:
Punishment for our sins if we do not seek forgiveness:
Some people say it is hell for eternity if one does not seek forgiveness for even the smallest offense. We don’t know what the punishment is but one can guess it is something like an eye for an eye. What a great way to teach a lesson to someone who is not sorry. After all, that is what God wants for us, so that we can grow and develop. God does not have us waste away in hell.
The idea of a permanent hell with no escape or no hope CONTRADICTS who God is as a creator. Sorry, but so does the idea of a permanent heaven where things never change and we accept the idea that some of us are in hell with no hope.

What do you think?

If your in a place with eternal bliss do you really think you would be thiking about people in hell?

It apparently worked for centuries for a lot of Christians and hey tis the season. One of the features around America this time of year for Halloween is churches that do. "Hell Houses." Where kids can walk through and be "scared" by haunted house variants meant to be like scarey ole hell. But what part of...even if you don't believe in the fiery version of hell I find the idea of eternal punishment for thoughtcrime repugnant?

Christians changing up their mythology doesn't endear me to the variants.

People usually want to control other people. Religion is one great tool whereby people can be controlled by. Those days, books were handwriten and not available to the general public. Priests used the false doctrine of hell to control the congregation.

But today, in this day and age where the printed word is easily available. Its time everyone, and especially Christians read the bible carefully and critically, to determine what it actually teaches.

The only eternal punishment mentioned in the bible is the cessation of existence without the hope of resurrection.

Christians do not change their mythology. When they come to a better understanding of what the bible really teaches, then they change their belief. Eg. When they learn that the bible does not support the doctrine of Trinity, then they have to give up that idea. We do not aim to endear ourselves to anyone. Our Great Commission is to spread the Gospel.

Thank-you for reading.

And gasp, there are Christians out there that would disagree. Not that I care really. Again I don't care what Christians do with their mythology beyond when it effects other people.

I don't care. I don't go to them.

Punishment for thoughtcrime. Seriously, read my post from earlier.

Sorry mate, can't find your post.

But lemme make a guess. By "thoughtcrime", you mean if a guy has lustful thoughts about women? You are thinking that the Christian god will punish eternally for that?

No? Then please define what do you really mean. Let me understand you.

[Y]ou're dealing with sending people to eternal torture....

You're apparently ignoring the fact that IT posted a quote--with which I also agree--about God's in fact ASSISTING people in the Next Life, even those who've placed themselves in the worst sort of hell (defined as spiritual separation from God) eventually to draw nearer to Him, ultimately attaining Heaven (defined as spiritual nearness to God)!

(BTW, these situations of Heaven and hell exist here and now as well as after death; and each of us is in one or the other at every moment as a function of where our heads are at.)

Also, please note that the situation isn't one of God condemning someone and placing him into hell (as is commonly described), but rather one of an individual's chosing to place himself in that situation (via free will). Considerable difference.

Peace, :)

Assisting? Yeah you tell that to the folks at places like RR. And personally I've never heard a Christian claim that their theology says that God is assisting people that are in hell. It's described as a one way ticket. Also you're own book contradicts your notion on the inflictions of hell.

There is no such thing as thoughtcrime outside of that one George Orwell novel.

It's a paranoid fantasy.

In reality, no there isn't. Totalitarian regimes try to get as close as possible but that's all they can do. However, when discussing a hypothetical omnipresent, omniscience then it comes into play.

Omniscience doesn't change anything in this case. The free will of the individual is what gets him to heaven or hell. You'll find I am immune to snark.

I don't believe God punishes people for eternity. I believe that the wicked who do not repent and who do not accept Jesus Christ's atoning sacrifice (either during their mortality or in the spirit world where they await their resurrection) will be made to suffer for the duration of the Millennium as payment for their own sins, after which time they will be forgiven and allowed to enter Heaven.

That's so utterly disturbing..

"Follow me or rot in hell for eternity for all I care!"

Not someone I would follow.. on principle alone.
I agree. Truseeker didn't say that anyone would "rot in hell." He said they'd be "permanently destroyed." That's different. (Not that I agree with either of those doctrines.)

I think God would not resurrect them at all. He would just forget about them.
So how would you explain the biblical passage which says, "For as in Adam, all die. Even so, in Christ shall all be made alive"? If God didn't resurrect the wicked, "all" would not be made alive.

If Adam was a sinner, and if the sin came to the world, because of Adam, then based on this logic, Abraham, Issac, Joseph and Moses be also sinners? What is the fault of all these innocent people who came after Adam? does it me that "All" are sinners as the verse of the Bible says?
"What was the crime of Noah the Prophet? What was the transgression of Joseph the Truthful? "
