When I used to wonder how Golda Meir could be a national leader, but America still treated women as "tolerable," I could never have imagined that when we made it, it would be up against the likes of this:

I wonder if the GOP parody flag is manufactured in the USA?
Why do you think this is a parody? An awful lot of energy setting up multiple sale websites.

Oh I am all for renewable energy sources like solar and wind. I just want the kinks worked out beforehand. And no, so far the heat doesn't bother me and I haven't even had to install a sprinkler system!
The "kinks" have been pretty much worked out. And that is not how it works. The first gasoline powered cars were terrible. Hard to start, not very reliable, and extremely expensive. Modern cars are far cheaper (when one adjusts for inflation) much much safer, and more reliable. There are some minor kinks in electric cars, but the are already superior to gas cars in almost every way. The only thing missing is infrastructure and that is often an evolutionary change. Seriously, you do not want to pay for a revolutionary change.

But back to renewables. Both onshore wind and solar power are cheaper than any other source of electric power out there right now, and they are only getting cheaper. Again, this is an evolutionary change where more and more plants are added slowly. It took subsidies to develop the technologies so that they did work, but now that they do it is just a matter of time. If they started to tax fossil fuels appropriately and forced those funds to go for renewables, and that would include the much needed revamping of our electrical system the change will be much faster and we will still save money.

Wow. Looks and presentation, rather than substance. But only for women? Why not judge men the same way?

As you said, you don't care for Hillary or Pelosi, but they were fabulous at their jobs -- they just didn't have the right "presentation" for you.

I've been listening to every word Harris has been saying since she's taken over the campaign -- and not even because I can vote for her...I can't. She strikes me as knowledgeable, enthusiastic, responsible, caring.

Here's a suggestion -- turn the video off and just listen to her words. That might help you get past some of the surface prejudice you seem to be demonstrating.
Oh, I can look beyond the surface, no problem. And the same can be said of men, but they're not a "new image."

It's probably a female to female thing. Watching young women of the corporate world come to conference rooms with 5" cleavage showing was also a presentation factor that was not well received, IMV. over the decades men had to learn not to flirt and charm female coworkers as they increased in numbers and achievements. Women are still learning to not use similar "tactics," especially since it can easily be misconstrued. Hopefully the situation has improved since I retired 12 years ago.

Even better, just read them in print. Read a Trump speech and read a Harris or even a Biden one. Then read a Trump speech and you will never vote for him.

What people look like and what people sound like can be very misleading. Read what they are actually claiming and it can make a world of difference.

It was on fire when I laid down on it.

40 percent of our electricity comes from fossil fuels. And we weren't being forced to buy cars before the kinks were worked out. And don't get me started on the cost of a vehicle today. Which is why I am still driving my 2018 SUV.

I know. And that needs to change. Again, not overnight, but the sooner the better.

I am not advocating tearing down existing plants today. That is foolish. But finding alternatives that will not kill us is needed. Right now 21% of our electricity comes from renewables. I would like to see the two figures reversed some day.

"Parody" as in a humorous exaggeration.

Besides, I just finish reading Vance's memoir today. He's NOT a hillbilly. His grandparents moved north of Cincinnati when they were teenagers. He has some some third cousins that are still hill people, but he only visited for funerals and reunions. I won't speak to the term his family would be classified as in my local, as it's not a nice stereotypical calling.

Oh I love JD Vance. First his oh so choice descriptions of Trump. And now a comment about "childless cat ladies". A lot of women that are childless are not that way by choice. The more people that he insults and turns against the ticket the better:

It depends upon what you mean by "forced". Let's say that you had a neighbor that loves to throw parties. Once a month he has a huge party with tons of confetti because he is a devotee of Rip Torn. Now it turns out that there are no city laws on confetti. His confetti turns up on our yard every month, and there is a a lot of it. There are no city laws about that and you have no legal recourse. Would you support a law that required those that used confetti to clean up after themselves?

I would

I would love to see us drill and become energy self sufficient.
In fact, depending on how you look at it, the U.S. is quite energy self-sufficient. There are two ways to think about energy independence. One definition is that you produce more energy than you consume. Based on that definition, even if you import some energy, the fact that you produce more than enough to satisfy our needs would mean the U.S. is energy independent.

If you produce more than you need, why would you import energy? There are a couple of reasons.

One is that the type of energy you import (e.g., crude oil) is a better fit for your energy systems than the energy you produce yourselves. For example, U.S. refineries are well-suited to process heavy, sour crude oils. But the oil produced from the shale oil boom is primarily lighter and sweeter. Thus, U.S. oil producers can export this oil, while refiners can import the heavy, sour crude that they prefer.

The second reason is that you may simply import crude oil to process it and export the finished products. In that scenario, you aren’t importing oil because you need it, but rather because it is financially lucrative to do so.

But you left out what you think about the inevitable effect of "drill baby, drill," which is a further degradation of global climate, and perhaps leading to serious problems for people who come after you -- whether they're your progeny or not?
I would love for us to bring inflation into normal limits.
You're almost there now! Nobody can change the past -- previous inflation raised prices to where they are now -- but inflation has slowed to very nearly where the Fed wants it, and they're beginning to think about lowering interest rates. (Canada just did that by 25 basis points).
I would love for abortion to be relegated to a morning after pill and also preferably for rape or incest or the actual life of the mother only. I want no part in supporting abortions for convenience only with my tax dollars.
And so you would deny women the right to their own decisions, because you've decided yours is better -- and therefore better for everybody, in every circumstance.

What about lung cancer? Would you support curing that with your tax dollars for a person who started smoking in 1960, when nobody really understood the connection? Or would you say, "you can have treatment if you got it some other way than smoking?"

That's a very defeatist attitude I can't get behind... Especially in the wake of Roe v Wade and how the "old boss" led to that being overturned

But since that's the way you look at things and the leader doesn't really matter, why vote for an adjudicated rapist? If the presidency doesn't matter, why give it to someone who's so morally bankrupt? What message does that send to the rest of the world?
Did I say I am voting for an adjudicated rapist? No, I didn’t. I guess you mean DT. I used to live around the SF Bay Area, so I am familiar with Kamala Harris’ background. I personally don’t think she’s and less bankrupt politically or morally.

Trump did the most politically & morally bankrupt
act of any President, ie, attempting to over-throw
an election. By several means, including killing.
So even if Harris loves pulling the wings off of flies,
she'd better than Trump in that regard.

I can't say why @Kathryn doesn't care for her, but I can say why I don't. My liking her or not, IMO, has nothing to do with her qualifications, however. I don't care for Hillary, nor Pelosi, but I think they were fabulous at their jobs, and I'm grateful for their service!

It's that perfect and constant grin. It feels fake. It looks "pageantity," sorority, Ivy League privileged. Something about Hillary and Pelosi runs the same, without the grin.

Let's face it, "presentation" matters more in this era for women as we're just beginning to level off in the equality plane. Three in the political eye that present as very relatable, IMO, are Amy Klobachar, Elaine Luria, and Stacey Abrams. Keep an eye out for them.
Fair enough... but are you implying that men politicians tend to be or appear to be more authentic?

I would be surprised if you do.
