The Health Care Bill Passes!

I think the best description of government is, government is like the maffia. They're like the biggest thug on the block. And if you are going to do busniess in that thug's turf, you have to pay them for the privalege. Of course, we agree to put that thug into office, and because they are democratically elected, it makes it kind of fair. So long as the thug keeps all the little 'thugs' away and lets me run my business in peace, everything is fine.

But what happens when the thug thinks he's not gettin enough? When he has run off all the revenue, because all the jobs have gone overseas, but he's still addicted to the rich lifestyle? He may start coming down on the people still around. Beating them up and shakin them down. no fun!

this is a fairly common argument i have heard. people claiming that anything from/by the government qualifies as 'socialism'
Um...
When was this claim made and who made it?
And what does it have to do with Daddy's post?

I ask cause I must have missed it...

I'm going to take a typical liberal view on this:

Cons of having healthcare reform - People pay more in taxes, more so if you make 250,000.00 a year.

Cons of not having healthcare reform - People die: Men, women and children.

Seems rather obvious which is the lesser of two evils. And for those who say that nobody's "dying" because the don't have insurance and that hospitals can't deny you treatment, you need to get your head out of the sand or whatever other dark place you're choosing to hide it in, cause that statement is one big fallacy.

People are dying because they don't have insurance: It's happen to one of my family members and it's happening to tens of thousands of others each and every year. Maybe you won't always get turned away for emergency treatment, but they sure can deny the bejeezus out of you for underlying ailments that can kill you if not treated, where by the time it's an "emergency," it's too late. This isn't some "political boogie-man" created by liberals, it's a sad and unfortunate reality. People really need to wake up and get out of their preconceived bubble for bit and see what's really going on.

Not like I'm a huge fan of either, but at least Pelosi and Reid are trying to do something that will help save lives. Remind me again what people like John Boehener and Mitch McConnel are doing besides saying "no" to everything?

Nothing personal, I am tired of people voting that other folks buy them stuff.
No one's buying me crap, Rick. I've had health insurance for a long time now, thank you.

I'm tired of people voting that saving a few bucks is more important than saving a few lives.

the difference is, the gay marriage issue doesnt cost billions of dollars in the middle of the worst recession since the great depression. (i dont support ban on gay marriage btw, but neither do i condone forcing other people to pay for my medical bills)
Hi Troublemane. My name is Facts. Have we met?
CBO and the staff of the Joint Committee on Taxation (JCT) estimate that enacting both pieces of legislation—H.R. 3590 and the reconciliation proposal—would produce a net reduction in federal deficits of $143 billion over the 2010–2019 period as result of changes in direct spending and revenues. That figure comprises $124 billion in net reductions deriving from the health care and revenue provisions and $19 billion in net reductions deriving from the education provisions.

My apologies if you though I was implying you personally where.

And you are entitled to your opinion.

I have a question: What is the max a person would have to pay if they had a pre-existing condition? I heard Nancy Pelosi mention there was a cap. I wonder what the highest rate could be?

How much is a life worth? A nice range in USD will suffice. It would be nice to know at what point your money becomes more valuable than human life.
I would be interested in this number myself.
Of course, I bet the number changes based upon how said person is related to him....

Interesting how he was talking about how he did not want to pay, what was it, $16,000 for an operation here in the USA....

Is that number close to a life's worth, $16,000?

As you are, to yours.

I am honestly not sure. Perhaps that question would be better directed at someone like Autodidact who could answer it properly.

sadly, those are not facts, mr sprinkles. those are politically expedient guestimates. the fact is that todays bill signed into law will cost over a trillion by some estimates. the most conservative number being tossed around is around 800 billion something.
CBO: Health care bill to cost $829 billion - Health care reform- msnbc.com

when they say "the plan reduces deficits over time", guess what they are talking about? raising taxes, raising rates....yes, over the course of ten years the initial penalty for not having insurance goes up, and so will your premiums! if premiums dont start going through the roof soon, in response to this legislation, i would be very surprised. ..oh they are also talking about slashing medicare in half. thats the other part where they cut deficits.

no there is no free lunch dude. when they say the plan pays for itself, i call BS.

First off, then none of us should have any personal possessions including the computers we are talking on. People are dieing all around the world.

Second thing, no one that is dieing is being turned away from the hospital.

I have the perfect solution for people around the world dieing of starvation. Just mandate that they go to the grocery store and buy food. Problem solved Obama style. Oh, don't forget to give them some coupons to help pay for the food.

As has been explained to you over and over, this is a damn lie.

Just try getting an underlying condition treated at an emergency room. If you have cancer, diabetes, or anything else that can't be fixed immediately, the emergency room won't help you.

I've been sick and broke in my life and was not turned away from the hospital. They gave me a cancer operation. Of course when I got better, I went back to work and paid my bill. It took years of payments, but they got every penny.

It is not a damn lie, sorry.

The damned lie is the false assumption that you can get continuous care for cancer.

It`s rare you even get an early enough warning if you`re uninsured as you don`t go to the doc for physicals as often.

Rick you really must see the hypocrisy of you bashing this health plan while flying to India for medical care.

It`s damned hysterical actually.

So why didn't you answer the question?
Why the smoke and mirrors?

Why the attempt at to divert the question with a blatant non sequitur?

Try going to the E/R (please note that I did in fact notice your strawman) at Community Hospital or Mercy Hospital in Springfield, Ohio.
