Why Are So Many Cops Dumb?

We Never Know

No Slack
I recall the IQ issue from a while ago, but recently ran across this article....
Excerpted....

Jordan sued for discrimination but to no avail. Here's what a federal court ruled:

Too smart for police work, "Jordan has worked as a prison guard since he took the test."

@Wu Wei might find it fascinating that even a lowly engineer
would be rejected as too smart to be a cop. An interesting
aspect of the average 104 IQ claim is that this means that
nearly half of cops are below average (100 IQ).
So we're giving a couple hundred thousand below average
intelligence people a gun & a license to kill to civilians.
And this after training that's less than what's required
to be a mechanic, real estate agent, or cosmetologist.
Ref....
Just for you @Revoltingest

"The Norwegian Police University College is the central educational institution for the police service in Norway. Basic training for police officers is a three-year university college education aimed at providing a broad practical and theoretical foundation.

New video....
Police chief illegally orders a man to leave his town or be arrested.
In this case is "dumb" about the chief's ignorance or tyranny?
The video provides legal analysis. This & other videos created
a stir in the town of Turtle Lake WI. The chief soon retired.
what gives you the impression the Chief is dumb?

The real problem, I think, is not that applicants with a high IQ are rejected, it's that applicants with a low IQ are accepted.
A cop should at least have the ability to contemplate the repercussions of their actions.
What makes you think cops don't understand the repercussions of their actions?

Did you hear the legal analysis of this interaction?
Using a broad definition of "dumb", rather than IQ,
it's obvious to even most civilians cops it's illegal
to order someone to leave town. So either the
cop is dumb for not knowing this constitutional
liberty, or he's dumb for giving an illegal order.

Ahh so you're using a broad definition of "dumb". What is this definition of dumb that you speak of?

The cops using the Punisher Skull is another reason they are dumb.

Their actions.

When I was a kid and did something stupid, my father used to ask me: "What were you thinking?". I tried to come up with some rationalization but the true answer was, I wasn't.
I recognize that when cops have to come up with excuses for their behavior. They didn't think about the repercussions. Most of them. Of course I can't really distinguish if they were aware of their "qualified immunity" and didn't care but then Hanlon's Razor helps. Never attribute to malice what can be equally explained by stupidity.
My guess is that more cops are simply stupid than malicious.

The reason you did something bad as a kid was because you thought you would get away with it; not because you were stupid. Cops do bad things because they are bad cops not because they are stupid. Some of the most genius minds in the world do horrible things; never confuse evil with stupidity.

Nope. I simply didn't think. I didn't think it was bad and I didn't think about how to get away with it - otherwise I would have.

That takes care of distinguishing malice from stupidity.

They're basically trained to be malicious. They are often unnecessary, mean, humiliating and even do obviously illegal, indecent and immoral things (like rideside strip and body cavity searches, planting evidence, and using any excuse to shoot amd kill).

Unless you're interested in the truth. Let's face it; you obviously don't know. You have no proof, only your own subjective opinions that these things are based on stupidy. Perhaps such ignorance is good enough for you, but for me I require a little more than that.

"Dumb" is a broadly defined word that I purposely chose
to include not merely the low intelligence issue of the OP,
but also...
- Pig headedness.
- Refusal / inability to learn.
- Acting without thought of consequences.
- Maliciousness without caring about people they abuse.

On that last one, it's even worse when cops genuinely
care about abusing people, ie, then intend it. It's doubly
dumb because of the harm caused, & making taxpayers
pay for cops being vicious bullies.

Dump cops plot "loading" the guy up with
tickets because he informed his passengers
of their rights. These cops were recorded
making up bogus charges they might use
against the man. Dumb, eh.
But they weren't held accountable for this
predatory behavior.
One of the cops was later fired for a racist
social media posts. Dumb, eh.

A fine example of where it is appropriate to attribute malicious intent.

These dumb cops had judgements against them
& their city for $8,250,000. Yet the cops were
supported by their department, & even promoted.
This shows how dumb cops pervade the entire
department, & that no good cops are there.
