Why would it matter if Jesus had risen from the dead?

John1.12

But why? Why wouldn't the cross sacrifice and the teachings of Jesus matter unless Jesus came back to life?
It just makes no sense at all.
Because for one he said he would rise again so he would be found a liar . But a person is saved by his life not his death . Of course we can't be saved apart from the death . But we are saved by his life .

Rom 5
8But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.

9Much more then, being now justified by his blood, we shall be saved from wrath through him.

10For if, when we were enemies, we were reconciled to God by the death of his Son, much more, being reconciled, we shall be saved by his LIFE .

11And not only so, but we also joy in God through our Lord Jesus Christ, by whom we have now RECIEVED the atonement.

What does the narrative have to do with it? People write ridiculous stories all the time. It does not mean they are true.

Then what criteria or criticism methodology do you use to derive what is bogus or ridiculous and what is truth and/or of divine origin?

If would put them in the grave if it was really true but as my longtime atheist sparring buddy from other forums once said, a story is not proof that anything in the story ever happened.
I sure wish I had his full explication on the matter but that'll have to do for now.

Christians are trying to put all the other religions in the grave with the resurrection belief, but since they cannot EVER prove it really happened the other religions are going to be staying above ground. :D
But that is basically why it is a big deal in general, whether he did it or not. Obviously Christians believe he did or there wouldn't really be a lot of Christianity left, so for them it matters a whole great deal.

And as your atheists sparring buddy said, those that don't believe it, are most likely not Christians or believers in Jesus as the son of God or God himself. :)

I do not believe that Jesus ever said he would rise from the dead. Show me the verses you believe mean that and I will tell you what I believe they mean.

But a person is saved by His life and by His death on the cross.

Im pretty sure you will interpret every verse i give in a special unique fashion. So here goes .This is one of many, many.
Matt 16
21¶From that time forth began Jesus to shew unto his disciples, how that he must go unto Jerusalem, and suffer many things of the elders and chief priests and scribes, and be killed, and be raised again the third day.

luke 18
31¶Then he took unto him the twelve, and said unto them, Behold, we go up to Jerusalem, and all things that are written by the prophets concerning the Son of man shall be accomplished.

32For he shall be delivered unto the Gentiles, and shall be mocked, and spitefully entreated, and spitted on:

33And they shall scourge him, and put him to death: and the third day he shall rise again.

But we were saved by His LIFE and RECEIVED the atonement, so I see no reason why Christ would have needed to come back to life and walk around town. The only reason why that might have been useful would be to restore the faith that the disciples had lost after Christ was crucified, so they would know that Christ was still alive and they would continue carrying the gospel message far and wide.

That might be true, but Jesus did not rise in a physical body so nobody else will either.

Won’t the Dead Rise Again?

How do you know that?

There are TWO Messiahs in the Jewish bible - the Redeemer and the King
I was reading today of the Messiah who would come to Israel and rule over the nations,
this is the King - but the Jews would mourn when they see their king is the lowly man
they crucified.
Isaiah, writing about the same time, spoke of the Messiah as suffering and dying for
His people, and in his death He would see the salvation He brought to His people.
Daniel spoke of the Romans coming and taking away the temple, Jerusalem and
even the Messiah.
And Jacob, a thousand years previously, spoke of a Hebrew nation which would end
with the coming Messiah.

So, it's complicated. And as we know in science, most things are complicated than
than we first thought.

No, I do not have an interpretation if that verse. I just read it in context and still do not know what it means. But raised again on the third day makes no sense unless He had been raised before that.

No the verse in Romans 5 is talking about his ' life ' after the resurrection. Without his glorification ( which was after the resurrection) There would be no offer of the atonement, no regeneration, no promise of Glorification for anyone else, no eternal life for anyone , no redemption, no giving of the Holy Spirit ,and on and on and on . Without the resurrection the death is meaningless.

There have been so many threads being posted about Jesus rising from the dead, so I think it is about time someone asked why it matters so much to people, not only Christians but also atheists.

So what is the significance of Jesus rising from the dead and why is it such a big deal to people?

I have my own ideas but I do not want to give away my position until I have heard from others. ;)
Because it proves Jesus’s divinity, power and authority. He returned after his temporary mortal tabernacle was killed as he said he would.

This is not Jesus saying He will rise again, it is someone else who wrote the gospel saying that, and rise again does not necessarily mean rise from the dead again... How could Jesus rise from the dead again if He had never died and risen before?

I do nit believe coming back to life was necessary for Jesus to prove His divinity, power and authority as he proved it in His life and by His sacrificial death.

Do you have a verse that says He died before?

Acts 17 .
30And the times of this ignorance God winked at; but now commandeth all men every where to repent:

31Because he hath appointed a day, in the which he will judge the world in righteousness by that man whom he hath ordained; whereof he hath given assurance unto all men, in that he hath raised him from the dead.

I can decide for myself what I believe is bogus or ridiculous, I do not need any criteria or criticism methodology.
I can also decide what I believe is truth and/or of divine origin.
