Why would it matter if Jesus had risen from the dead?

Spirit of Light

Again, this is not Jesus saying He will rise again, it is someone else who wrote the gospel saying that, and rise again does not necessarily mean rise from the dead again... How could Jesus rise from the dead again if He had never died and risen before?
If Jesus do come from God it would not be to difficult for God to make it happen probably.
But the thing is, Was Jesus in two different bodies ? Jesus born as Jesus we know of today, and as the recurected jesus, but in a different body?
@Barry Johnson you may have an answer to this question?
And yes my thought can of course be wrong (i do not know christian Gospel good enough for deep discussion)

Acts 17 .
30And the times of this ignorance God winked at; but now commandeth all men every where to repent:

31Because he hath appointed a day, in the which he will judge the world in righteousness by that man whom he hath ordained; whereof he hath given assurance unto all men, in that he hath raised him from the dead.
Raised him from the dead does not mean raised in a physical body. It does not say that.

Obviously Christians believe he did or there wouldn't really be a lot of Christianity left, so for them it matters a whole great deal.
I consider that really sad that their belief in Jesus hinges in Him being raised from the dead, as it was His Life and His death in the cross that really mattered. :(

I can decide for myself what I believe is bogus or ridiculous, I do not need any criteria or criticism methodology.
I can also decide what I believe is truth and/or of divine origin.

Basically you are telling me "shut up". ;)

Just for your information, your answer is absolutely absurd to me since it is basically calling for all kinds of logical fallacies in discussion. Also, it means you will always follow confirmation bias. And the reason for making this statement is to tell me not to question your method, that you will not discuss because you dont give two hoots about what others say. You have your own way, and no logic or anything else matters to you. You will pick and choose what you want to believe, and ridicule and call "ridiculous" other peoples beliefs just because "it does not sit with you". Of course this conversation is absurd and will not continue, but this should be said nevertheless.

Alright alright. Cheers.

John 2.19
19¶Jesus answered and said unto them, Destroy this temple, and in three days i will raise it up .

20¶Then said the Jews, Forty and six years was this temple in building, and wilt thou rear it up in three days?

21¶But he spake of the temple of his body .

22When therefore he was risen from the dead , his disciples remembered that he had said this unto them; and they believed the scripture, and the word which Jesus had said.

People have claimed to be all sorts of things , But not so many raised themselves from the dead . I believe in a risen saviour not a dead one .

I suppose so since God can do anything, but what reason would God have to do that?
Jesus said His work was finished here before He died in the cross.
He said ITS finished , not " I've finished everything and there is nothing else I.ll ever do again " . No ' ITS ' Finished " ITS " . So we ask what was finished?

There have been so many threads being posted about Jesus rising from the dead, so I think it is about time someone asked why it matters so much to people, not only Christians but also atheists.

So what is the significance of Jesus rising from the dead and why is it such a big deal to people?

I have my own ideas but I do not want to give away my position until I have heard from others. ;)

If Jesus did not rise from the dead then Christians won't rise either and our faith would be useless, because the promise is that we will rise from the dead.
If Jesus did not rise from the dead then He would not have fulfilled prophecy and so would not be the Christ.
If Jesus did not rise from the dead then people would be coming to the Bible and making anything there mean whatever they want by claiming that other historical narrative is not true.
If Jesus did not rise from the dead then He would not be around to fulfil the other Messianic prophecies.

Well its not as simple as that, just him getting nailed to a cross and rising from the dead. It completes the circle so to speak of him being the savior and taking the sins on him etc.

However if he didn't raise from the dead etc. then obviously he wouldn't be the son of God as he claimed. This is just an extremely brief explanation and Christians could probably expand on it a whole lot more :)

Jesus' message and promise was that God's divine spirit of love, forgiveness, kindness and generosity dwells within us all, and that if we will allow ourselves to become the embodiment of that spirit, we will be healed and saved from ourselves. But we (humanity) rejected that message because it exposed us for what we currently are, and so we killed the messenger. But the message didn't die, and the revelation and promise it conveys remains 'alive'. As does that divine spirit within us all. Which is why, in the story of Jesus life and death, he rose up, again, in the end.

It's a STORY, people. A story with a message to convey. The historical accuracy is irrelevant to the story's purpose of conveying that message and promise, to us.

But thats not what the bible says at all ?

I do nit believe coming back to life was necessary for Jesus to prove His divinity, power and authority as he proved it in His life and by His sacrificial death.
It was for his own Apostles and other followers. Had Jesus simply vanished, then the original gospel teachings may not have been enough to sustain the movement and appealing story about Jesus. Christianity, the religion about Jesus, is 95% "Christ and him crucified". Without that Jesus would have been one of a number of purported Messiah figures in history that failed to fulfill the expectations of Judaism.
