Out of interest, does this Pietism hold any resemblance to the European Jewish philosophy, which originated around the mid-12th century, that happens to share the same name?
Praise be! I'm still in time to proffer some of my famous* clam chowder!

Take care, and enjoy the forums!
*Well, not really famous**...
**Quite the opposite, in fact.
So; because aspects of the Torah appear to contradict your concept of God, this automatically proves that it is the Torah that is distorted?
*smiles*
We have to remember that the authors of Genesis would have had a very different image of God then, say, the classical theistic model which is...
Since I don't hail from the land of striped flags, I'll merely point what as I see as the obvious, nay, the only worthy cantidate for the next presidential elections.

Dance, my furry friend. Dance for the revolution...
Actually, we only have things other people have said Jesus said. That's a slightly different kettle of anchovies.
Why? You've made a lot of assumptions there without giving any reason as to why we should accept them as any more valid then someone else's interpretations. Given that faith is...

God is not not God. What not not God is, however, I couldn't even begin to define.
I suspect something broadly along the lines of contemporary scientific thought, as far as I understand it as an unqualified layman. (With a six-second attention span to boot ;))
I doubt there exists...
An interesting post, and one which reminded me of a tale told by friendly ol' Chuang Tzu;
(This is, however, the abridged version. Chuang Tzu's friendliness doesn't extend to my typing fingers... :p)
Reason certainly isn't "shunned" in religion, it just isn't regarded as the only (For lack of a better image) 'tool' at our disposal; in some areas reason is often simply not an appropriate 'tool' to use. I've personally found that my faith and my reason support and define each other, one does...
Since I see my religion as part of me, and I of it, the question of "need" doesn't really arise. I dare say I don't "need" many aspects of my personality either, but as each is an expressive part of me which influences how I percieve and react to circumstances, I'd be less of myself without...
Why not? It seems to be generally accepted that the divine cannot be fully expressed in rational dialogue and deductive concepts, and I believe that the same should follow for religious belief systems which are, after all, based on an accepted orthodox formation of particular dialogues and...
Mostly I was referring to the uncannily numerous occasions of my posting on a topic only for it to cease... Erm... Topic'ing (hence my signature); though a small amount of it was simply to allow me to revel in the delicious word 'fudge'. :p
Only if one interprets those verses in a particular way, much like how a few Christians claim that the creation story in Genesis is really a coded message supporting evolution. Last time I checked, I wasn't made out of clay. ;)
Extrapolation: I'm interested in a thorough overview of Jewish mysticism, say from the 13th century and earlier. (Though anything later would still be interesting) Can anyone point out any good books, websites or other sources? :)
Explanation: I've been playing KotOR too much recently. :p
