I went to a girls school and had a very different experience. I was never made to feel like I could not do something because I was a girl. And from listening to other people's experiences I probably would have had a terrible experience at a mixed school and I'm very grateful I never went to one...
Also the media doesn't represent a woman as dynamic often enough. If she has several lovers for example then that defines her whole character, she can't be intellectual, be a loving mother, be influential, have complex feelings and have several lovers, she is just a cheeky minx that's it. I...
Caladan I mean feminists hating men kept being brought up in feminist discussions and derailed the threads which is why we wanted a feminist DIR, so only people who identified as feminists could post here.
So I just had a thought Mystic, there are all sorts of women in this world and in the United States, so I think it's fair to say that representing women "accurately" doesn't really exist, but women can be represented fairly and in a varity of roles like white men are.
Even though I can sympathise with political lesbianism, and would not just brush it off as man hating full stop, although that is arguably a part of it. The idea of not sleeping with the enemy and loving your sisters is flawed because it doesn't take into account intersectionality, which would...
Yes and also I mean I wouldn't trust them in my personal private space, e.g being alone with them in personal spaces like my flat for example. Whilst I would be more trusting with women in those kinds of situations.
I was thinking maybe political lesbianism, but I'm even sympathetic to political lesbianism, I just don't agree with how they condemn other women for their relationships with men.
Something I have just been thinking about - what is man hating? It almost always comes up when having any feminist discussion which is why we wanted this forum in the first place.
But I was wondering exactly what man hating is within feminism and is there any legitimacy to it being asked to be...
I actually think the focus on male and male sex in the bible is probably for a similar reason, don't lay down with a man like you would do with a woman, "like you would do with a woman," why not? Because the woman is the submissive one.
But also I think in the west, women loving women has had a bit of a history of not been taken seriously, so in victorian England you had laws against gay sex but not lesbian sex because lesbians were thought to not really exist and they could be easily "cured" or in reality easily controlled...
I probably wouldn't have done what I liked if it wasn't for feminism, feminism gave me the power to question myself. And even I can feel a bit uncomfortable with what I like because I know it's not socially acceptable, so you have to deal with people's reactions. It can be a very complicated...
