If pushed, I generally use Tao or God, depending on the context and meaning I'm trying to convey. (I'll occasionally use other, more descriptive words such as 'harmony' as well) I try not to rely on such names though, once I do that I lessen whatever I'm trying to name. :)
As for why I prefer...
Indeed.
I wouldn't, and now I'm really confuzzled. I don't think I've implied that I attempt to 'align the world' according to my personal morality, which I'm well aware is subjective, flawed and impermanent.
I'm re-reading over your posts trying to figure out how to reply. :) I think it's...
*nods*
A far more eleoquent post then I could have ever managed. Fruballs!
@Victor: I know you weren't talking to me, but could you clarify what you meant above?
Yes, to a certain extent... (Though I'm not sure I'd call it a major change)
I feel that instead of 'changing' per se, my faith has been clarified and I'm now able, on a good day with a fair wind, to be aware of a greater sense of perspective about my spirituality. My core beliefs haven't...
Fascinating! Danke and so forth FFH. :)
After giving it a quick spin, I got:
Big Bird forever evil (73 matches)
Smile and sing every day (11 matches)
Silly codes just for fun (1 match)
What about religions that don't include, or at least don't mention, a God(s)?
To the OP, I certainly don't think that a particular religion's concept of a Deity/Ultimate Reality must exist for that faith, and in particular it's prescribed lifestyle, to hold any merit; a lot depends on the...
*sings along to Sheryl Crow*
Oh, if it makes you happy... Ooh! Hola! Welc's and greets!
The Karma/Fruballs thingie, I believe, is a system which allows you to indicate approval with a particular post and/or User. You may both give and receive Karma in the form of Fruballs, and over time...
Shouldn't that read "Muslims believe in all the prophets whom they believe were, in fact, prophets"? For example, I'm pretty sure that Islam doesn't recognise the Baha'u'llah as a prophet, yet many regard him as a messenger of God.
Since it seems to come down to who is regarded as a prophet...
If I had to put it into words, I guess I'd say greater awareness and perspective. To be able to slow down and really see something for a second, be it my own thoughts or a tree, is a fascinating experience. There are other things, but I feel that everything else has arisen from this.
Is God in charge? I couldn't answer that question, as it seems to require that God be separate from creation, or at least be easily definable as a separate entity.
*sighs* You know, it'd be nice to be able to answer at least one question with a firm yay or nay here... :p
Perhaps there are, perhaps not. I'm not sure why we need to go trucking off to some distant mountain though. Sounds like a good way to get sweaty to me. ;)
I believe that such terms do exist, at least to a certain extent, with the ol' implicit/explicit atheism divide. (Namely, that the former refers to one who holds no belief in God and the latter to one who believes that there is no God) I could well be the one who ends up looking stupid though...
The ultimate reality is, and is not. Anything else, would be something else. I don't think I could describe or define it.
I don't think we can. In the Tao Te Ching, more then once a question is asked along these lines, 'How can I know this?' with the answer being 'Like so!' or 'By looking...
Argh, I can't believe I missed this! :foot:
Huzzah! I'm glad things worked out windcarver. It's good to know that parents are still people too, as well as being all old and parenty and stuff... :)
